Hey guys, sorry to intrude on your holidays but I have this new problem apparently. I don't know what's causing it.

Every time I begin watching a YouTube video, I get this popup error message from Windows:

Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows

To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.

Name: Windows Explorer
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation

Then the only available option is Close Message, and upon clicking it the Start menu/taskbar dissapears and starts up again. The error only appears on the first YouTube video I watch. Watching others after that doesn't make the error appear again.

Oh, and when my taskbar reappears, I see that AVG's icon is "running scans" but when I double-click it, it really isn't running a scan.

If anyone has a solution I would really appreciate your help. Thanks so much in advance, and enjoy your holidays ( :) ).

This DEP prompt basically tells you that a malicious code or something dangerous has been executed, however the DEP in your machine has prevented it from doing damage.

I can't be sure what may have triggered the alert because it could have been something malicious in the background or an ad.

I had a similar encounter in a YouTube video, except the attack was intercepted by my Avast! Web Shield.

I just did some full system scans and I'm clean according to Spybot, AVG, MBAM, and Kaspersky Online.

I wanted to make sure it was really YouTube so I closed some programs and cleared my cache, too. It really is YouTube. Specifically, the error pops up every first vid I watch.

Thanks for the reply, drragostea. I wonder if there's a way to tell the DEP that YouTube is safe...

The first of every YouTube video? I'm stumped because I have no idea what is triggering this. Is your DEP hardware based or software based? What browser are you primarily using [to watch YouTube]?

Can you try this video (just a random favorite):

Problem is that you can't tell DEP that YouTube is safe or not because the problem is that YouTube is content inside your browser, not really a process. DEP can filter out processes not anything particular like Yahoo! Mail or YouTube : l.

Merry Christmas.

Yup, it happened again when I clicked on the YouTube link you gave. :|

Mine is hardware-based, according to this link that told me how to find that out (Link: http://sunbeltblog.blogspot.com/2005/12/note-on-dep-and-wmf-exploit.html). And I use Internet Explorer.

I also did a search and it's happened to other people too, but mostly Firefox users.

Argh, I hate it. But what I do now is just move the popup message aside and click "Close Message" when I'm done with all my browsing. I'd love for it to stop, though.
