Problem with hijacked computer

After being hit by the hijack program, the one that switches the home page for IE to a creepy search page for phony spyware removal tools, I encountered a few problems with getting rid of the problem. The biggest one was that something was interfering with Spybot's updates, so I could not run a scan with that tool. The Ewido, Hijack this and Ad-Aware SE Personal edition (through Google Pack) all worked and cleared the problem. Here is the Hijack This log

After this semester is over, I will run by Norton Ghost disk and make certain that everything bad is gone. If you are not familiar, Norton Ghost 2003 is the last version of the product that was an install-and-use forever version. Subsequent versions are licensed for a year.

Let's check your hosts file for hijacking just in case that is what is blocking Spybot updates:

Navigate to this folder:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

Find the file named: hosts (with no extension)

double click on it and choose *Notepad* as the program to open it with.
