Here is my info. I had computer problems with malware, spyware...what ever is was/is. (Web site adds would appear here and their as well as my Norton 360 was disabled as well as the windows auto update, firewall....and would run slow!) I was able to install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it did remove some files and the computer does run better but I still have problems. I tried to run the update the the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program but it would not work. I am not able to install spybot either, and my norton 360 program still will not run. Can you please take a look at my info and let me know if I need to remove some items. I did do an online virus scan and It did not find any.
Thank you very much.

After multiple times trying to install Spybot - Search & Destroy it was able to install. I was not able to run the update but I was able to run a scan. I did end up removing 96 more items. After removing them I restarted the computer and tried to run the update with no luck. It says "error retrieving update into file". I tried running Norton 360 and that still does not run. I have ran a new log for you to look at. I hope we can clean the mess up.
thanks you for your help.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
The junk can be tough to remove, so do not expect fast or easy.

I apologize for the wait, volunteers are swamped at all forums with infected computers. If you have resolved your issues, please post to let me know so I can close this topic.

I will try to help but because you did not read the "Before you Post" instructions we have issues to overcome.

1) Delete both of these and follow the directions to properly locate HJT.
Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\64R5BLRB\HiJackThis[1].exe
C:\Documents and Settings\John\Desktop\HiJackThis.exe

Download Trend Micro Hijack This™ to your Desktop
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

2) Please look at the top of Notepad, click on Format and make sure Word Wrap is NOT checked.

3) Please be positive TeaTimer is diabled as in the instructions.

4) I suggest you take the time to read all of the pinned (sticky) information at the top of this forum, it is there for you. Especially this:

Do NOT run 'FIXES' before helpers have analyzed the HJT log
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=16806
and this:

Posting additional comments or logs before a volunteer responds, can push you back instead of forward, because your thread ends up with a newer date. Also, helpers may think you are already being assisted because of the post count.

5) When you get this far, post the new HJT log with the properly positioned HJT and please describe the malware symptoms.

Thanks...Phil

First of all sorry for the prior miscomunication. I have followed your directions:
below is the current HJT log. I currently have priblems running my Norton 360, it will not even start-up. I also have problems running updates to Spybot S&D as well as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Thanks for the help.

I am still having problems with your logs, are you postivie word wrap is not turned on in notepad? Look how my logs look and how yours are stretched, look at the instructions in #2 in my last post.

Please read all directions carefully.

1) Please DO NOT ENABLE Spybot S&D TeaTimer while we work together.

2) A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/RcAuto1.gif

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/whatnext.jpg

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Tutorial if needed
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, combofix found some junk and some virtumonde files, please follow the directions carefully and in the numbered order.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Make sure you allow Recovery Console to be installed if requested.

2) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=-

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\John\Application Data\Antispyware

Save this as CFScript

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: qzlhps.dll <<< may be gone

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

*Cleaning Prefetch may result in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

If you can update MBAM now, there is no need to download it again. If you still can not update, uninstall it and download it again.

5) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the log from CFScript, the log from MBAM and a new HJT log.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

How is the computer running now?

Thanks

This can be done as time permits, but it is important.
Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.

Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,
Here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested:
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.

Adobe Reader 7.0.8 <<< out of date and unsafe, see this:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Gets installed along with another Logitech program because the EULA agreement is not read. Unless you know what it is and use it, you may wish to uninstlal it?

First thing when I draged CFScript into ComboFix.exe. Combofix had a pop-up ( I think this came up the first time also did not think much about it) It said I was missing a file but it was able to run through. I would have to run it again to actually see what it said. Second When running this it prompt me and says to make sure I have turned off Norton 360. Norton 360 is not even in my sys tray? Before my computer problems Norton 306 was always loaded when I booted the computer.

When I tried to run the MBAM update it still did not so I uninstalled and reinstalled as instructed. Durning the install (at the end when it was looking for updates a pop-up appeared and said" Update failed. Make sure you are connected to the internet and your firewall is set to allow Malwarebytes' AntiMalware to access the internet". I am not sure what to do about this part. (I am connected to the internet.) FYI: this is the message I was getting before I uninstalled the program. At that window I did hit OK and the program was done the install.

I do have the other logs but not sure if I should post them now or wait until futher direction about this MBAM problem.

I did try to remove the O20 - AppInit_DLLs: qzlhps.dll and it was already gone.

Status: The computer does not appear to have any unknown pop-ups but I am still concerned about why my antivirus program (Norton 360) is not running.

I will look at the uninstall list. Next.

Thanks

Puzzles me, MBAM is one of the easiest programs to update I know of, this is what combofix shows me.
AV: Norton 360 *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated)
FW: Norton 360 *enabled*
Why don't you close the firewall for just enough time to update MBAM, that will tell you if the firewall is blocking updates. I don't use Symantec so I know nothing about the firewall settings.

Why don't you see if you can work out those issues with the AV with Symantec. Ask them about their firewall blocking MBAM updates.
http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/index.jsp

We need to remove combofix from the computer but I would like to be sure Recovery Console got installed for you first:sad:

One of the hardest things for me to reconcile is how a "security" program like Symantec can cause all of these problems with the tools we are trying to use to clean the malware when it is the program that should have protected you to start with?

After the last post I tried to do a couple of things. First I tried to install the Secunia PSI program as you suggested. It did install but when I went to run it I got a "pop-up box" It reads as follows
"Unable to retrieve PSI user ID From Secunia.

Please verify that you are able to connect to https://psi.secunia.com/ and then restart the PSI

Note: Proxy support for the PSI is currently unavailable, but is planned for a future release. If your system requires access to the internet through proxy you will not be able to use the application at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience."

After that I then tried to update Java and a pop-up appreared and said " The installer cannot proceed with the current internet connection settings. Please visit the following web site for more information....

It appears I have some sort of setting that is not allowing this computer to access the internet. Any thoughts on what I should do?

Thanks

I can not run Norton 360, I click on the desktop icon and nothing happens. therefore I do not think I can shut off the firewall??? if it is not opened. Unless it is a setting in the control panel some where. The is where my total lack of computer knowlege kick's in. Do you think my computer is clean and now my problems lye with Symantec?

It is hard for me to say you are clean when we cannot access the internet to update programs to be sure. You have a problem with Symantec, did you try to run it from Start > All Programs? Sometimes the Desktop icons become corrupt. Since you can't seem to update anything it could be the Symantec Firewall blocking access to the internet. As I said, I know nothing about Symantec. I suggest you contact Symantec tech support, ask them for a toll free number and get them on the phone. Once Symantec AV and Firewall is working properly then it is likely the issues with updating other programs will be resolved also. I will keep your topic open until you resolve the Symantec problem, then let me know and we will continue to look for any malware to be sure.

Thanks

I contacted Symantec and we tried a few things. They first asked me to access a few websites so I can down load a program and that would not work. It would try to acces the site and then just said it could find the page. They then moved on and tried to install a couple of programs and I click on the button and it would not do anything. After a few time tring to do different things they then wanted to acces the computer remotly and see if the can see what is going on them self so they tried to access my computer remotly and it would not work. We tried that a few times but It would not connect. We left it as I need to uninstall Norton 360 and reinstall. BUT when I go to download the "special uninstall program" it would not download either. With all of these items going on There is definatly something wrong.

Any thoughts on this ...?
Thanks

Not a big fan of Symantec, perhaps I should keep my thoughts to myself. I can offer links good to freeware programs to replace Symantec if you wish but those programs would need to be uninstalled before you install new programs. We can also consider uninstalling combofix and intalling the newest version to see if it finds any malware the first version did not find. (program does not update but new malware is added to it daily)
I have not run into a problem exactly like this before.

Thanks

Since I can not install the “special” uninstall software for Symantec then I guess I will have to try to run windows uninstall. I have no preference in what I use for programs as long as they work. Can you send me an alternative program to Symantec? Also what other programs should I always have on system ex: Spybot, MBAN… When should these programs run, should it automatically be set to a schedule, if they can?

Do you think once I uninstall Symantec this may eliminate some of my problems? I just hope the uninstall for windows will totally uninstall it. Should that be my next step?

You are asking questions faster than I can think:sad: Here is information that should answer most of them:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html
http://cybercoyote.org/security/not-admin.shtml

Here is a link to freeware programs that are available:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/Links.html

Questions concerning Symantec should be asked to Symantec.

You do not want two antivirus programs or two firewalls running at the same time, if you install a new program, uninstall the one it is replacing.

Wow there is a lot of programs out their. Do you have a suggestion on which ones I should choose? After I remove Symantec, Is it ok to download these and try to run them and see what happens? After I will give you a status report.

OK, will do. It might not be until the weekend until I am able to be back on that computer and work on it. I will let you know the status of my progress when I have some information for you.

Thanks again for your help!
