Well I got rid of my nasty virtumonde virus but looks like there's still a small leftover, not sure if it's actually doing damage or lurking, Tashi told me it could be vundo file, whether it's live or leftover. Here's my log file.

the avgrsstx is ok, its the others. we can remove them manually.

did you install this packet capture library:
C:\Program Files\WinPcap

can you find this dll on your computer in the system32 dir.?

I installed the winPcap while ago, it can go I have no use for it anymore I don't think.

I went into my system32 folder but couldn't find awtTkigD.dll

I used Process Explorer from Microsoft to look at running processes, which rundll32.exe is one atm.

When I click "Bring to Front" it says no visible windows found for this process.

if you have XP pro we can try this for what its worth. Lets see if the dll is listed under a svchost process;



tasklist /SVC > C:\tasklist.txt


it will put a .txt file @ C: that can open with notepad. you can copy/paste in reply

Any clue what log file it makes is called, I have a few logs in .txt files in my C drive heh...

I double click tasklist.exe, it opens a box quickly and closes, but no tasklist.txt in C drive.

you would run it from a cmd prompt.

run>start and type in the window:
cmd
click ok or enter
at the prompt if it says: C:\documents and Settings\your profile

then this is where you would have to move the tasklist.exe you downloaded.
or you would have to cd into the dir its in.

if its on your desktop drag it to C:\documents and Settings\your profile
then run this below from a cmd prompt:
tasklist /SVC > C:\tasklist.txt

ok here we go. We want to remove three of these .dll's We will leave the avgrsstx.dll as it is ok. We will do it manually. Maybe not the easiest nor only way it can be done, but its the only way iam sure about.

First please disable spybots tea timer so it dosnt go nuts. How:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

after the reboot we will back up the registry:

start>run and type in regedit, click ok or enter. Windows registry opens.
at the top on the left hand side click the my computer icon
then File>export
Name it backup or something else and
leave the "Save As Type" as Registration Files (*.reg)
then click save, you can save it to your desktop.
close the regedit window

ok registry is backed up.

next:
ok we will manually delete the items. first we need to locate the item in the registry. Go to start>run and type in the window: regedit. Click ok

windows registry opens up again. On the left side is the key/folders. Click the + signs to drill down to what we are looking for:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]

once in the last \windows folder on the left side, you should see the AppInit DLLs we are looking for over in the right hand side pane.

here is a screen shot, your dlls will be different, except this one (avgrsstx.dll)

ok back in the registry:

on the right side pane right click on AppInit_DLLs and select modify. The edit string window will open, you will see the dlls. you want to edit out all except avgrsstx.dll
You can left click and backspace through them leaving the one dll.
when done click the ok button and close the regedit window. reboot computer and post a new hjt log. hopefully its gone from the hjt log now.

I notice you have two services running as google updaters, while this is possible with all the google applications out there lets get them checked out while we are at it.

first see if you can spot them in there present locations;

you can check your java version;

Vulnerabilities in versions of Sun Java may be responsible for some malware installs via your browser.

It is important to keep Sun Java up to date and also to remove older versions.

* 1. Uninstall old versions of Sun Java via Add/Remove Programs.
* 2. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
* 3. Reboot your PC if prompted.

Reducing Your Risk To Malware:
The Short Version:

1) Keep your OS (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us),(Windows) browser (IE, FireFox) and other Software (http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/) up to date to "patch" vulnerabilities. Always install Service Packs.

2) Know what you are installing to your computer. Alot of software can come bundled with unwanted add-ons.You may be installing more than you think.

3) Install and keep them all updated: one antivirus and two or three anti-malware applications. If not updated they will soon be worthless.

4) Refrain from clicking on links or attachments you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites, no matter how tempting or legitimate the message.

5) Don't click on ads/pop ups or offers from websites requesting that you need to install software to your computer.

6) Don't click on offers to "scan" your computer. Install ActiveX Objects with care. Do you trust the website?

7) Set up and use limited accounts for everyday use, rather than administrator accounts. Limited accounts (http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/advanced/useraccount.mspx) can help prevent *malware from installing.*

8) Install a third party software firewall.

9) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client. Internet Explorer and OutLook Express are popular targets for malicious code because they are widely used. 10) If your habits include: warez, cracks etc or you install files via p2p networks then you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source? Do you really need another malware source?

I appreciate it a lot, only 1 question.

rundll32.exe is still running after a certain time, I know that's not always an issue, but everytime it does start up your here the windows noise when you do something it doesn't like, that single "doo" sound...haha.

As long as it looks all good to you I have no problems at all, just wanted to double check.

hi,

you mean you see rundll32.exe under the process tab in task manager. Its a windows process and is normal to see it running, if thats what you mean.
