View Full Version : hijacked browser toolbar not removed and still active

Greetings,

My IE 6 has a toolbar that should not be there with an uninstall option at the side. If clicked, goes to multiple gambling sites/porn sites.

I just ran Spybot, found a lot of files and duly deleted. Restarted my machine and launched IE but the tool bar is still there and still active.

KIndly advise.

Thanks and regards,
Vincent.

Hi

Download a self-extracting copy of HijackThis from :-
http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis_sfx.exe
1. save it to your Desktop.
2. Double-click on the file hijackthis_sfx.exe and it will self-extract into its own folder,
C:\Program Files\HijackThis
3. Go to this folder and run the hijackthis.exe file
4. click Do a system scan and save a logfile
5. Copy & paste the logfile into your next post here...

First go to Add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall UnSpyPC it is a rogue program...

Disconnect from the internet Close ALL browser windows (including this one) - run hijackthis and tick to fix (check the box next to) the list below.........when all are ticked (checked) click the Fix Checked button at the bottom. :-

Greetings,

After having remove spyware and malware with help from here (thank you!) from my windows xp pro, it seems that whenever I open a few windows (not Browser windows) my computer hangs, i.e perpetual sand timer and nothing works except ctrl alt delete and I have to restart.

After clicking Restart, either "ending pccguide.exe or ending explorer.exe" windows pops up and I have to press "end now" before it will restart.

If I don't open any XP windows, everything seems to work fine.
Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks Lonny :wink::

vincent1 ... It's not unusual to receive an "ending process" box for an application, when shutting down windows .. it shouldn't happen, but it sometimes does, this is because the application has not been properly released from memory...in fact it's "stuck" in memory...

pccguide.exe is part of your Trend Micro\Internet Security 2005 program (don't ask me exactly what is does)

explorer.exe is your windows shell, desktop, taskbar etc,

First I'd like you to post a new hijackthis log...

Did you delete this file C:\WINDOWS\system32\ksnhb.dll like I asked you too ?

It's OK if you did (it's malware) but the dll may still be in memory and causing the problem...

It's also possible you have new malware attached to explorer.exe

Hi

Please do this for me as well...

Please download & run blacklight Rootkit diagnostic tool from :-

http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml

click I ACCEPT

click download > save it to your desktop

then ...

1. Double-click blbeta.exe

2. Accept the agreement > click next

3. click scan

4. A list of all items found will be displayed, or it will say "No hidden items found"

if anything is found do NOT elect to rename or clean anything, as legitimate entries could be found - click close

5. if you see "No hidden items found" click next then exit

On your desktop you will now see a log file, it will look something like this fsbl-20060105183235.log

6. open the log file and paste the contents into a post here... (if the log is too large to paste, then please attach it)

some of my Google search results are still being diverted to elsewhere when clicked. So something must still be active.

Diverted to places like:

Thanks for your assistance.

HI

Note these files found by fixwareout :-

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSUYU.EXE 51,262 2006-05-09
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMMAX.EXE 44,045 2004-08-04

The first is abviously a bad file..

Look at the date the second one was created, it looks like it's been on your computer for nearly 2 years...

I want you to get the second file scanned (it's almost certainly malware, but maybe not associated with this infection)

& while you're at it, you may as well scan the first one as well, then we can compare the results...

Please go here :-

http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Upload this file from your computer :-

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSUYU.EXE

copy & paste the above bold line into the "File to upload and scan" box...

or click the browse button and browse to the file on your computer...

Then click the submit button

Then do the same with this :-

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMMAX.EXE

Post back the results

cheers

HI Steamwiz,

Run scan on dmmax.exe and uploaded image file. Jotti went offline before I could scan csuyu.exe. Will post this when jotti comes online again.

Thanks.

HI Vincent

Use killbox to delete these 2 files :-

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSUYU.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMMAX.EXE

Follow the same procedure as before, in post #13

Then please run the Blacklight & FixWareout programs again and post the new logs...

HI Steam,

Everything seems fine and dandy so far!

Is there any way to check for reinfection? Seeing how dmmax.exe (whatever that was) has been in my computer for two years undetected by the virus software I have been using.

In any case, thank you very much for your time, assistance and patience in resolving my problems. :bigthumb:

Cheers,
Vincent Wan

Hi Vincent

You're very welcome...

There's so much malware out there, all the different anti malware programs catch some of it, but it's impossible for any program to keep up with all of it...

The file you had for so long was not active, that's how it got missed, I doubt there is such a thing as a clean computer anymore, unless you format and reinstall..

Have a look at this link :-

So how did I get infected in the first place? ... >
