View Full Version : Waaahhh! Spybot S&D won't stop treating me like a child! (Browser start page setting)

I like to think of myself as an adult, capable of making my own informed decisions as to where I want my start page to direct me when I open my browser. Spybot S&D, however, seems to have different ideas as to what's acceptable.
Could someone please tell me how to change my internet start page, such that Spybot allows the change to take place? "Registry change denied" is getting to be old and tiresome.
Thanks much.

kaylasdad99:
Are you running TeaTimer? If so are you getting:
A registry change dialog, titled "Spybot - Search & Destroy" that says "Spybot - Search & Destroy has detected an important registry entry that has been changed." before getting a pop-up notification in the lower right hand corner of the screen titled "Resident" that says "Registry change denied".
--- or ---
Just getting a pop-up notification in the lower right hand corner of the screen titled "Resident" that says "Registry change denied" and goes on to say "... based on your black list."

I'm getting option a.
A registry change dialog, titled "Spybot - Search & Destroy" that says "Spybot - Search & Destroy has detected an important registry entry that has been changed." before getting a pop-up notification in the lower right hand corner of the screen titled "Resident" that says "Registry change denied" And yes, I believe TeaTimer is implicated in this.

Stop denying the registry change or disable TeaTimer!
**************
There is currently a bug in TeaTimer 1.4. Portions of TeaTimer's popup dialog overlay the "Allow change" and "Deny change" buttons. On my system the very top edges of the "Allow change" button (on the left) and "Deny change" button (on the right) are showing and I am still able to select the options. I also can check "Remember this decision" since it is visible. If no portion of the "Allow change" and "Deny change" buttons are showing, you can answer TeaTimer's popup dialog (English language version) by pressing "A" on your keyboard for "Allow change" or "D" for "Deny change". Note: If you close the dialog without answering "Allow change" or "Deny change" the registry change is denied.
If you can't deal with the problem that way until it is fixed, you can:
Apply one of the workarounds found in the following pinned (Sticky) thread that fixes the pop-up dialog so the buttons are visible:
Solution to fix the pop-ups in TeaTimer

There are (3) fixes published in that thread. They are:
The ResHacker fix published by ElPiedra (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=128) here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=423&postcount=1
The murdo (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=440) patch published here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=775&postcount=9
Or the patch originally by SyreneD (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=1735) that I published here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=2670&postcount=38
Disable TeaTimer as follows:
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Resident.
Uncheck the following:Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) Active.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart! As you point out, I have the version of that bug that overlays the buttons entirely, such that I didn't even know they were there. Pressing "A" caused TeaTimer to allow the change.
Any idea if there's a patch contemplated for that bug?
Whatever. You ROCK!

 D'OH!
Please disregard the stupid question above, which appears to have been answered along with the solution you posted.
I'm used to vB coding. However, I've never been a member of a board that allows me to edit posts. I can't seem to make an edit "take," as it were.
Anyway, I'm off to check out those fixes in the sticky. Thanks again.
