I have recently been having a problem with the virtumond trojan and i thought i had removed it. But recently my computer has slowed down a lot. I can not open SpyBot to scan my computer (it either errors, overflows or does not start) so i scanned with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes found Agent and FakeAlert when a quick scan was preformed.

Here is the HJT log:

Hi Rokimi

We will begin with ComboFix.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/whatnext.png

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

If you need help, see this link:

I would like to add that ComboFix did not prompt me to download anything. Also the state of my computer has changed since my posting. After running for a few hours, I will get a message that some proccess stopped and the computer has to shut down. Also, when I start the computer there are two errors. Sorry, but, I do not know the name of these errors.

ComboFix deleted a lot of 'seneka' files, if that means anything.

I will need details of those errors.

Seneka is a rootkit, yes.

"I would like to add that ComboFix did not prompt me to download anything"

Please see here how to install recovery console manually:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Re-run combofix afterwards and post back a fresh combofix log, please.

However, when my computer restarted I did not get the two error boxes. The third will only appear after a few hours.

Shaba

When that error box appears, kindly write down what it says if possible.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
c:\windows\system32\pcload.exe
c:\windows\system32\ffkuz.dll

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=-

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

ComboFix prompted me to update so I did. But this time ComboFix did not reboot my computer. Also i walked away while ComboFix went through the stages and when i came back I could not see the icons on my screen but when ComboFix finished they came back.

Yes, that is normal.

Please go to Kaspersky website (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html) and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button: Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives
Click on My Computer under Scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If you need a tutorial, see here (http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/Bleeping/KAS/KAS9.gif)

how long is the scan supposed to take?
the tutorial shows the scan taking 9 seconds but mine was running for 10min when I figured I must have done something wrong. Also the 'Save' button was unclickable (geuss you could say it was faded out).

Scan can take hours, depends on how much data you have on hard drive(s).

Save button is faded out until scan is finished :)

I deleted the contents of the first 2 folders and deleted the entire 3rd folder. I also ran ATF Cleaner (almost deleted my passwords in the process). And lastly I rehid that one section that windows recommends to hide (the system files and such).

What should i use to scan to make sure I am clean and do you know of any good firewalls and such to protect my computer?

Shaba

You can run scan with Symantec and post back if it finds something and I will give you final instructions :)
