View Full Version : Weird Problem

HallCrash

I have been repairing computers for a few years now, not an every day thing. I have encountered a problem that I cant solve without reinstalling windows. I can explain all the tools I use: Bart PB, spybot, AVG, tredmicro etc, etc.

but, let me explain the problem:

I found Anti virus 2009 on this computer and I removed it via BarPE and McAfee SDat scan. Now if I try and connect to an antiviral web site, e.g: trendmicro, spybot.info. I get a DNS error. I have checked the host file and proxy settings. HJT and they are clean

If i boot into Bart PE and run a mcafee viral scan or a lavasoft scan, nothing is found, I cannot run spybot from a PE enviroment, I usually add it to the RunOnce reg setting and run it on boot. It is running in the task manager but it will not display the UI window.

same goes for malwarebytes.

Any ideas?

at this time, i was able to update AVG manualy and I have it running in safemode. it did fond a few things like Generic.EZL, Generic.VZM and Generic.GHB, I am not sure why Mcafee did not pick them up in Bart PE, I will keep this thread updated.

ok, Update: So Far as I can tell, AVG found no more problems other then generic3.ZKN

I tried to ping guru.avg.com and i found a few problems,

1.cmd.com
2.command.com
3. ping.com (contained the letters MZ)
4. ping.exe routed to loopback.

I added the guru.avg.com domian to my host file in hopes to bypasr the loopback problem with no luck.

5. tracert.com (contained the letters MZ)
6. tracert.exe routed to loop back

filrewall?

Really, i cant figure this one out. I ran the KZ repair tools (www. kztechs.com) and I didnt find anything irregular with that either. winsock, tcp/ip are all "Good". all antiviral domains aer routing to loopback.

is it the system policy?

any help would be Awsome!

This computer is having the same issue with as halin

http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=44474

Google Link Redirects.

well as the antiviral DNS errors.

Search engines redirecting and all antiviral/antimalware updates were redireting to loopback..

here is what i did. :bigthumb:

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices.

Scroll down to “Non-plug and Play Drivers” and click the plus icon to open those drivers.

Then search for “TDSSserv.sys”

Right click on it, and select “Disable”

Note: If you select Uninstall, it will install itself again when you reboot the system, so DON’T select Uninstall.

Restart your pc.

You can now update your Antirus/Malware/Rootkit softwares and the go.google rubbish will stop.

In simple terms, TDSSserv.sys is a service/server redirecting all software updates to 127.0.0.1 (your own computer) so they won’t update.

also included with this "driver" are:

%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\drivers\TDSSmact.sys
%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\TDSSCFUM.DLL

marked BackDoor.Generic10.AYIR and BackDoor.Generic10.XPT

I am still looking for more malware.
