hi leesgroot,

Lets get one more tool to check for malware. Its called combofix. There is a guide to read first, it will tell you what you need to know and do. Once you have read the guide install and follow the prompts. Post the combofix log.

The guide:

hi,

Not much there to worry about. You can remove combofix like this:

start>run and type in combofix /u
click ok or enter
Note: there is a space after the / and before the u

You could try disabling Spybots tea timer which runs in the background if enabled and the icon by the clock is showing. See if its a drag on resources anyway.

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

leesgroot
2009-02-05, 03:25
ok before I do that...

yesterday when I restarted the computer to see how it went I got
a window saying:

Reg Svr32
Load Library ((*^%#^%$#bunch of Japanese symbols?) failed -The specific module could not be found.
EbayISAPI.dll

And today I get:

Failed to Connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at b.casalemedia.com.

Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

* Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

Which I think is a malware? So is there some pieces still left? Only other thing I noticed is that the combofix did not change my time format back.

hi,

EbayISAPI.dll seems it has something to do with ebay. does it sound familiar to you? You use ebay alot or have some ebay software on your machine?

leesgroot
2009-02-07, 06:27
Yes I do use ebay.

Today, starting up I had no 'background' problems.

I guess viral wise I am ok. Maybe if I remove some of the removal tools I will regain some of my speed back?

Please advise. My computer has never been this slow.........

shelf life
2009-02-07, 17:31
the removal tools have nothing to do with your "speed" issue. They are on demand scanners and do not run in the background. Combofix can be removed like this:

start>run and type in:
combofix /u
click ok or enter
Note: there is a space after the x and before the /

MBAM you can keep. Always check for updates first before using it. The paid version offers auto updates and a real time protection component.

why dont you try disabling spy bots tea timer. If you use it--it does run in the background and can chew up system resources. Also if you see icons by the clock you can click on them to launch the software then look in options or preferences to have the software not start when windows does. Some software may have such options. You do want your AV running.

I would think twice about using this:
Advanced SystemCare 3

Most cleaners, optimizers, fixers are big on claims but fall short of actually providing any benefits. Registry cleaning which this software does, does not improve a computers preformance. It can be removed via add/remove programs panel. Up to you

Sorry it took so long for reply. have been away. I will do as you recommend but I was curious as to what teatimer does?

hi leesgroot,

No problem.Tea timer is a real time process that runs in the background (if enabled) to warn about possible potential malware.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/33.html

I dont use SBSD so cant really provide more details about Tea Timer.

That last combofix log looks ok to me.
You can get a tool that will remove combofix for you:

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer:

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTMoveIt3.exe

* Save it to your desktop.
* Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
When OT opens, click the green Cleanup! button, then click "yes" to begin and "yes" to reboot computer if prompted.

After the reboot rescan and post one more hjt log.

hi,

thanks for the info. All looks good to me. Keep MBAM and always check for updates before scanning. the Paid version offers auto updates and real time protection.
If all is good on your end. Some info for you:

Reducing Your Risk To Malware:
The Short Version:

1) Keep your OS (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us),(Windows) browser (IE, FireFox) and other Software (http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/) up to date to "patch" vulnerabilities.

2) Know what you are installing to your computer. Alot of software can come bundled with unwanted add-ons, like adware, toolbars and malware. Do not install files from ads, links or popups.

3) Install and keep updated: one antivirus and two or three anti-malware applications. If not updated they will soon be worthless.

4) Refrain from clicking on links or attachments you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites, no matter how tempting or legitimate the message.

5) Don't click on ads/pop ups or offers from websites requesting that you need to install software to your computer.

6) Don't click on offers to "scan" your computer. Install ActiveX Objects with care. Do you trust the website?

7) Set up and use limited accounts for everyday use, rather than administrator accounts. Limited accounts (http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/advanced/useraccount.mspx) can help prevent *malware from installing.*

8) Install and know the limitations of a software firewall.

9) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client. Internet Explorer and OutLook Express are popular targets for malicious code because they are widely used. See also: Hardening or Securing Internet Explorer. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6AA4C1DA-6021-468E-A8CF-AF4AFE4C84B2&displaylang=en)

10) If your habits include: warez, cracks etc or you install files via p2p networks then you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source? Do you really need another malware source?

A longer version in link below.

Happy Safe Surfing.
