Hello,

Spybot-S&D is compatible with McAfee.
There's absolutely no reason to uninstall Spybot-S&D.
If some parts would conflict, just those parts could be disabled.

That's the way to to disable the resident feature of Spybot - Search & Destroy: run Spybot-S&D, switch to the "Advanced mode" via the menu bar item "Mode" --> hit "YES" --> select "Tools" in the navigation bar on the left --> "Resident" and there you can untick the checkboxes in front of the two tools.

We are not happy with the new marketing strategy that softwares like McAfee use to kick competitors out of the business.

Thanks for your reply.
Where is the proper place to ask that particular type of question?
Does PM stand for private messages?
Aside from unticking the two tools; How :{1} do you disable some parts of
spybot; and {2} how would one figure out which parts of spybot to disable?
This is getting frustrating and seems to be getting rather complicated.Thanks.

Uninstall S&D - let Mcafee finish - reinstall S&D. May be leave out the resident parts.
If Mcafee still complains they are actively trying to get rid of S&D. Possible they have a point with regards to resident parts but they are not permanent features.

Hello,

It is the right place, don't worry. :)
My signature is for those who write PM's all the time and when i turn the pc on my inbox is full. The forum is for everybody. There are a lot of people online the whole time who can answer questions and there is no need to pm special members in order to get a faster answer. ;)

But you do not have to worry, everthings fine. :)

That 2 tools are the only parts that need to be disabled.
You can also undo the immunization at the immunization page which can conflict if you run more than one protection software.

Best regards

Hello; I went back into spybot and disabled immunization by clicking the undo;so now along with the two tools in resident also disabled; I went back to McAfee to download again and it is still requiring me to remove spybot;
that is too bad;at this point I do not see any other recourse.

I am now curious about the section in recovery;I do not realize the
technical aspects of weather it is safe to recover those items or not.
I suspect that whatever items that are in there now,I asume I'm not using
them on my computer since they are there in the 1st place.So if thats the case, I probably would not know weather I need this stuff in there or not;
after I remove spybot. Is that right or not? Oh well; who knows;I don't!
But surely I can't go unprotected without the normal virus scan protection
much longer.I'll hang around the forum a little while longer to see if any thing comes up.

AH! Is there any rhyme or reason to all of this?

Thanks; Beergus Oh! and by the way; A.K.A. the TagCaptain

If even an upgrade to Mcafee detects S&D installation you will have to do what I posted earlier.

As spybotsandra link shows other products do same "not compatible with" tactic but apparently that also goes for Mcafee updates. If unlucky you will have to uninstall/reinstall S&D for every Mcafee update!

Dont know what update you are refering to of course. If a major one, like from 2007 -> latest version it might run as a first/full install and so warning make sense, if only minor you could be doing this over and over ;)

Regardless of problem you should keep main AV/Antispyware updated. ASAP.
