Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me.

I have always used spybot to help keep my system clean, however, now I find when tying to fix problems after running the scan (checking all file sets), it just crashes.

I have noticed that sometimes if I shut down Nortin Internet security 2008, the programme will work, but not always.

I have had to uninstall the programme and reinstall it several times.

Am hoping someone can help me sort this one out.

Thanks

Hello,

Which version of Spybot do you run?
Which items were found after the scan?
What are they named?

Best regards

Just the usual windows history logs, Microsoft word last programmes used, adobe last used, common logs, etc.

It always leaves two it cant fix, like last used programmes.

I have looked at all the results and nothing in the right panel says anything about malware, spy-ware etc.

It also says Microsoft security turned off, which I leave off, because I have Norton.

I always now have to turn off Norton for an hour in order to run the programme successfully. When I turn off Norton I disconnect the wireless network, so I am not connected to the internet.

I ran it last night and still have the log.

anne.kennedy5:

There is no need to turn off Norton to run Spybot just to eliminate the "Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled" detection. You can exclude that detection from future scans.

There are two types of excludes:
"Exclude this detection from further searches" a.k.a. "Exclude single".
"Exclude this product from future scans".
Depending on the circumstances, it is usually better to do an "Exclude this detection …" rather than an "Exclude this product …" because if there are multiple detections in a product you are eliminating all of those detections rather than the particular detection causing a problem. However, in the case of "Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter…" detections they have been separated into individual "Products" to facilitate exclusion so that both "Exclude this detection …" and "Exclude this product …" are synonymous.

If you want to exclude the item that has been detected from future detections:
Expand the detection if necessary (+ to the left of the detection).
Select the item (entry) that you want to exclude by left clicking on it to highlight it.
Then right click on highlighted detection.
Select either of the following from the list of options in the menu.
"Exclude this detection from further searches".
"Exclude this product from future scans".
In other words left click to select then right click to display options. If you don't select (highlight) the item first the options menu is for the entire detection list.

Since the "Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter…" detections have been separated into individual "Products" to facilitate exclusion, you can exclude the detection before you run your next scan. Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Settings > Ignore products. Go into either the All products or Security.sbi tab and check the following detection:
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled
Note: If you can't see the full name of the product, expand the Product column of the screen by placing the cursor in the column title bar between the Product and Detail columns until the column separator move symbol appears (cross with arrow heads pointing left and right), press and hold the left mouse button and drag the column separator to the right.

Many thanks for coming back to me.

I will do this from now on. However, I have to disable Norton in order to allow Spybot to fix the problems.

Its not just the Windows security centre option, am not too bothered about that. Its that Spybot wont fix any problems if Norton is running, so have to turn it off, and disconnect from internet to safeguard my system.

Any idea on why I cannot run Spybot with Norton running?

Thanks

Hey,

because Norton blocks Spybot! ;)
And if you want to know why Norton blocks Spybot, you've to ask Symantec. :)

Best regards,

-Matt-
