My computer has been running really slow these past few days (CPU usage usually around 60-90%). I suspect its some kind of malware, but the scanners like ewido, spybot, and adaware arent picking it up. Heres my HJT log:

On an unrelated note, the last time I had to remove all the malware and junk from my PC, my My Computer folder got a bit messed up. Its supposed to look like this (http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6228/mycomputer1full2xg.jpg), yet it looks like this (http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/2054/mycomp3kt.jpg).

Thanks in advance to whoever helps.

Hello and welcome back, if you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, follow these directions carefully.

Download Brute Force Uninstaller to your C:\
http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip
Unzip it to a folder of its own (C:\BFU). So BFU should be on your root. In most cases this is C:\
Download qoofix.bat: http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/qooFix.bat
(rightclick on this link and choose save as)
Place qoofix.bat in your C:\BFU - folder. (Important!)
Doubleclick qooFix.bat, Close all browsers and explorer folders.
Choose option 1 (Qoolfix autofix) and follow the prompts.
Please be patient, it will take about five minutes.
After the PC has restarted please post another hijackthis log.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks for returning your information. How is it running after the Qoologic trojan was removed? We have a little more to do, and I would like to do some cleaning, like this:

1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

2) You have ewido, open the program and choose update, allow time for it to finish. Now click scanner then complete system scan. Allow ewido to remove anything it locates unless you know it is not bad. Save that scan report, I must see it

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(this toolbar is either not working right or at all with the missing file. If you use it, install it again when we are done)
O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/14...3/cpbrkpie.cab
O16 - DPF: {9AC54695-69A4-46F1-BE10-10C74F9520D5} - http://cabs.elitemediagroup.net/cabs/mediaview.cab

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

If you don't have a good cleaner, use this free one with these instructions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Post the ewido scan results, a new HJT log and your comments. How is the computer running now.

Thanks...Phil

Well, my PC is still running slow. Let me first make you aware that you have a clean HJT log and it appears all malware has been removed. Malware is one of many, many things that can slow down a computer, and I will post some suggestions for you to try. First, let me give you this information: Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Cleaning out Prefetch slows the computer a little until Windows repopulates it, and ewido is also slowing thing as it is a large Security Suite during the trial. Read the information above and stop it from running, you can also uninstall it if you wish.

Here are some links with suggestions to speed up the computer that may or may not work:

I don't think ewido is causing my PC to run slow. I don't leave it running all the time. The only thing that is on constantly is ZoneAlarm firewall, and even that hasnt caused the PC to run slow before. Even when I close out of all the programs and apps, the CPU usage is still around 50-80%. Usually this would be in the single digits.

Ill be trying all of those different links to see how they work out in the meantime though.
