Hello and welcome to Safer Networking.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

Sorry for the delay in replying, the forum is very busy. If you still need help, please post a fresh HiJackThis Log

Step # 1: Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Step # 2: Download and Run ComboFix

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

*Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the Uninstall List,C:\ComboFix.txt and a fresh HiJackThis Log in your next reply.

Use multiple posts if you can't fit everything into one post.

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

LimeWire 4.16.7

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs (http://spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=26216) where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

Also available here (http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=23812&sid=a609c56441d8a2e5dc8d24e3e96420cc).

My recommendation is you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

Registry Cleaners

Re. Registry Clean Pro

I don't personally recommend the use of ANY registry cleaners.
Here is an excerpt from a discussion on regcleaners:

Most reg cleaners aren't "bad" as such, but they aren't perfect and even the best have been known to cause problems. The point we are trying to make is that the risk of using one far outweighs any benefit. If it does work perfectly you will not see any difference. If it doesn't work properly you may end up with an expensive doorstop.

http://forums.whatthetech.com/Regcleaner_t42862.html

I recommend that you uninstall Registry Clean Pro from your computer.

Step # 1: Run CFScript

Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

KILLALL::

File::

c:\documents and settings\Kelly\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\LimeWire On Startup.lnk
c:\Windows\System32\drivers\svchost.exe

Folder::

c:\documents and settings\Thomas\Application Data\LimeWire
c:\program files\LimeWire
c:\documents and settings\Kelly\Application Data\LimeWire

Registry::

[HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"c:\\Program Files\\LimeWire\\LimeWire.exe"=-
"%windir%\\system32\\drivers\\svchost.exe"=-
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\E]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{f821370f-cf6f-11dd-b30e-0012178c2d12}]

Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Note: This CFScript is for use on k8fox1's computer only! Do not use it on your computer.

Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. The ComboFix Log that appears after Step 1 has been completed.
2. A fresh HiJackThis Log taken after Step 1 has been completed.

Symanrec is still finding multiple instances of Trojan.Bris.A!nf

What is the location/path that Symantec is giving for these instances?

k8fox1
2009-02-07, 15:14
They are at:

c:\doccumentsandsettings\all users\application data\symantec\srtsp\quarantine\apg24.tmp

c:\doccumentsandsettings\all users\application data\symantec\srtsp\quarantine\apg25.tmp

c:\doccumentsandsettings\all users\application data\symantec\srtsp\quarantine\apg26.tmp

I scan with Symantec and delete them but they come back. All3 are named Backdoor.Tidserv

Thanks,

Mike

Here is a screen shot (.zip file) of the symantec scan results. This may help.

Looking through the screenshot you posted, the Trojan.Bris.A!nf files are the files we recently moved with OTMoveIT3, they are harmless where they are. We'll be removing them this post, along with the apgXX.tmp files as well. You also have some infected System Restore points, I'll have you clear those out in this post and set a new, clean one as well.

=======

Run OTMoveIt3

Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

:files
c:\Doccuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\SRTSP\Quarantine\apg24.tmp
c:\Doccuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\SRTSP\Quarantine\apg25.tmp
c:\Doccuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\SRTSP\Quarantine\apg26.tmp

Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.

Click the red Moveit! button.
Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
Close OTMoveIt3

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

To clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point, do the following:

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
Make sure the C:\ drive is selected and click OK. If your computer's Hard Drive is not located on C:, change it to the correct drive letter then click OK.
Select the More options tab
Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created..

Clearing your restore points is not something you should do on a regular basis. Normally, this process only needs to be done after clearing out an infestation of malware.

Be sure to post the lastest OTMoveIt3 Log before you do this next step:

Please open OTMoveIt3.

Click on the CleanUp! button. If your Firewall gives a warning about OTMoveIt wanting to download a file, allow it.
Answer Yes to the prompt.
The program will ask for a reboot. Answer Yes.

Finally, do another scan with Norton and let me know if Backdoor.Tidserv (or anything else shows up).

Did you remove your old and infected System Restore points and set a new, clean one? And did you remove OTMoveIT3 after you last ran it?

The instructions for both are at the bottom of post #24 (http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=288088&postcount=24) in the thread.

Ok did as you said. Those 3 files are still found by Symantec. See the attached.

Thanks for everything,

Mike

When doing the scan with Norton, where does Norton say the original location (before they are sent to Norton's quarantine) of those three files are? Or do they appear in Norton's quarantine everytime you do delete them and then do a rescan?

I believe they live somewhere in the documents and settings but you are seeing what I am. I tell Norton to delete them but they keep coming back. Thanks.-Mike

Something is bringing those files back even though you tell Norton to delete them, let's see if we can find it:

Step # 1: Download and Run Gmer

Please download gmer.zip (http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip) from Gmer and save it to your desktop.

***Please close any open programs ***

Double-click gmer.exe. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries unless advised by a trained Security Analyst

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan. Click Yes.

Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
Click OK.

GMER will produce a log. Click on the Save button, and save the log as gmer.txt somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
If you do not receive notice about possible rootkit activity remain on the Rootkit/Malware tab & make sure the 'Show All' button is unticked. Click the Scan button and let the program do its work. GMER will produce a log.
Click on the Save button, and save the log as gmer.txt somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop.

DO NOT touch the PC at ALL for Whatever reason/s until it has 100% completed its scan, or attempted scan in case of some error etc !

Please post the results from the GMER scan in your reply.

I'd like for you to delete ComboFix.exe from your computer.

Then dowload the latest version of ComboFix from one of the following links, save it to your Desktop, then run it:

Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

Post the ComboFix Log and a fresh HiJackThis Log in your next post.

Both the ComboFix and the HJT log you posted look good.

I'm going to ask for some help on this as to why those 3 files keep coming back.

I'll be back ASAP.

Ok sounds good, thanks.-Mike

Try emptying Norton's Quarantine and see if that stops the 3 files from coming back:

1. Open Symantec Endpoint Protection by double-clicking the yellow shield icon in the system tray or by clicking Start|Programs (or All Programs)|Symantec Endpoint Protection|Symantec Endpoint Protection.

2. Click View quarantine.

3. Highlight all items in Quarantine. You can highlight multiple files by clicking the first file, then holding the shift key while you click the last file.

4. Click Delete to delete the items.

Once the 3 files have been removed from Norton's Quarantine, reboot your computer and then rescan with Norton. Let me know if they come up again or if they are gone for good.

Ok I have done as you requested and the 2nd scan was clean. What did we do this time that allowed for this? Thanks-Mike

km2357
2009-02-14, 19:19
What was happening was that Symantec was finding the infected files in its own Quarantine. Sounds like a messup with Symantec's inner workings. We probably couldn't delete the files since Symantec was probably blocking us from deleting them. Emptying the Quaratine removed those files for good, so Symantec won't pick them up in its scans anymore. :)

Any other problems?

I guess we are good for now. If the problem comes back I will start a new thread. Thanks for all your help and patience.-Mike

Since there are no other problems, you are good to go. :)

You can delete gmer.zip, gmer.exe and gmer.txt off of your Desktop.

To remove ComboFix, do the following:

Go to Start > Run - type in ComboFix /u & click OK

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Please take the time to read my All Clean Post.

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point
