Malware lingering from MS Antispyware 2009?

Hi,

I have a suspected problem with Malware. This started a few days ago when I was infected with MS Antispyware 2009.

After searching for help, I believe I managed to remove the above using instructions found on: www.2-spyware.com/remove-ms-antispyware-2009.html and also a similar thread found on: www.spywareremove.com/removeMSAntiSpyware2009.html.

I then ran AVG Anti-Spyware and McAfee and neither showed any problems. However I seem to have numerous problems with PC:

- Internet Explorer runs very slowly
- Certain sites are never reached reached, these sites include this one and other antispyware and technical sites. IE displays the message ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’. If at the command prompt I enter “tracert forums.spybot.info”, it comes back with: “Tracing route to localhost [127.0.0.1] over a maximum of 30 hops”
- Sometimes the PC does not boot up. It hangs after the initial Windows XP loading screens is displayed and moves to a black screen with cursor. Powering off and on randomly works.

I tried to do a System Restore. It takes me as far as selecting the particular date of a restore, moves me on to the next page, but when I click ‘next’ to start the restore, nothing happens, not even an hour-glass to show it is supposedly doing something. This is the same even if I attempt the restore in safe mode.

As the PC is in such a poor state I have managed to do a HJT log and am fortunately able to access this site from another PC. I’d really appreciate someones help.

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

Remember to re-enable them afterwards.


Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.


When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Hi Blade81,

Thanks for replying to my post. In the intervening time, I discovered the DNSChanger trojan (with files like TDSSdxgp.dll and TDSSoitu.dll) on my PC, and after reading on various forums about how serious this was, I took the decision to reformat my harddisk and rebuild to ensure a clean machine.

So this thread can be taken as closed.
