firstly... sorry my english, I will comment my experience to help in something.
In win98se.... Spyboot62 always marked error when starting, no updated, no languages although I reinstated everything, but never worked. I was tired. I tried of everything and now the unique difference of my present configuration is the installation of directx 8.1
my question: a conflict with directx 9b previous installed is possible ???
I am surprised but now finally I found the solution
updated completed, inmmunize completed, and now it works completely !!!
