Hello Folks, im a newbie here, but verrrry familiar with Spybot S&D (did i mention i luv this program? okay)
I was visiting a friend of mine -whose system was infected, i jumped into action - downloaded the latest 1.6.2 (not the jan 26/28th release) installed..updated.. immunized..immunized again.. all fine.. -ran the scans cleaned up the trash.. :) system running much better :)
Showed my friend how to do the updates, pick a server, select the "new definitions..et al" .. and how to immunize immunize...
after 3 or 4 weeks now.. they called me up and said.. the unprotected=120 and noooo matter how many times they press the Green "+" Immunize button at the top ..the results always = the same.
They are on a firewalled router, but insisted they take the software firewall too, and install it, they have great anti-virus protection..
SOOOoooooo at the time of installation -because they are not techies, rather newbies with no technical skills (you know just use the browser to surf, outlook express to mail..Word to do wordprocessing, the odd game from a safe game site type - no porn, no music downloads..etc) -i didnt want them being "challenged and running up long-distance bills" every time their computer had a 'fart' - SO since they found their firewalls "allow or deny" questions.. challenging - i figured they would be lost with Spybots TeaTimer / SD Helper questions/boxes .. so i didnt install those two..
AND YES.. i specifically told them.. NOT to download those 2 updates from the list.. when the list comes down from the server..
They assure me they never have.. and that they still appear in the list..of available downloads..
MY THEORY is/was..they downloaded them once ooops by accident? and now.. since they are NOT using those features (ie: not ticked at time of installation?) - they now have "UNPROTECTED" definitions/rules.. that have no where to go.. hence why Unprotected=120
I had them send me a partial screen capture.. but not sure if "inserting an image here".. would wipe out all that preface i have typed above..
i will just summarize..
Unprotected = 120
Protected = 122817
Total = 122937

(the list goes on, but my friend, not being a techie type didnt know to maximize it on screen and then do the Alt+PrtScn from what they told me there are 9 other items each with 10 unprotected definitions below this firefox section)
i did browse about 2 to 3 dozen forum posts prior to this, so i hope it is something new.. and not a duplication of work..
any help would be greatly appreciated.
