Several Issues. [Archive] - Safer-Networking Forums

Hello, folks.
To start, almost all of these issues have begun happening between December and today, almost simultaneously, heh. Here's a brief list of some of the issues:

-On startup, one of the svchost.exe processes crashes (The one that does Automatic updates, COM browser, etc.), so I have to race my computer with Process Explorer to restart the process first...otherwise I have to restart my computer.

-My settings in almost every program won't save any more, including Firefox, World of Warcraft, AIM, ObjectDock...the list goes on.

-Firefox has begun crashing on startup. I've reinstalled several times and even deleted all of the Firefox settings from the App Data folder, but it still crashes on even a clean version. I've tried downgrading to 3.0.4, but that crashes too. Nothing I've been able to find works for this.

Winamp also crashes on startup.

-World of Warcraft crashes from time to time, with no real reason or error report provided.

-For the first time in the two years I've had this computer...popups. I'm ashamed.

-Not sure if this is related, but my Internet connection sometimes simply stops, and I have to restart the computer, because Windows doesn't detect that it's no longer connected, so ipconfig doesn't work.

I've tried several different things...Spybot and Malware Bytes' scans, reinstalling nearly all of these programs, System Restore, deleting all of my temp files...the only thing I haven't done is reformat, and if these problems persist, I'm prepared to. I just figured I'd give it one last shot, and I heard you guys were good at what you do. =D

hi,

I dont see any malware in the hjt log, but not all will show up in a log either. You have run SBSD and MBAM. Not all problems are caused by malware. For the most part malware also wants a smooth running machine so it can do its thing depending on the type of malware it is.

I dont see a antivirus app in your log. Do you have one? SBSD and MBAM are not antivirus software.

I've recently installed the latest version of AVG free, so yes I do now.

I was told by a good friend that some of the symptoms are similar to that of a Vundo or Virtumonde infection. He told me to run spybot, MBAM, and Vundofix again, and low and behold, 26 entries of Vundo were found and removed.

Some of my settings are working now, but I'm still getting a bit of crashes in a few programs. Here's an updated HJT log.

ok we will get a download to use. Its called SDfix. It only runs in safe mode. Link and directions:

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
* Choose your usual account.

* Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
* It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
* Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
