View Full Version : Windows update redirects to Google

2009-02-06, 20:49
Hello. I seem to have become infected with something. I first noticed that my spybot wouldn't update. I tried to reinstall it but it couldn't due to the bug. Next my windows defender pops up and states that it is out of date. I tried to update it but that didn't work either. I figured I would go to the Windows update page directly but when I did it redirected me to the Google homepage. Every single time, whether with Internet Explorer or Firefox it did the same thing. Now I need to know how to get rid of it. My HJT report is as follows.

Hi

That's dds report, not hjt log you posted ;)

Anyway, please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log (please see instructions below if needed).

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Download and install TrendMicro HijackThis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe)
* Once installed open HijackThis by clicking Start > Programs > HijackThis and click the button labeled
Do a system scan only

* Click the scan button in the lower left hand corner of the interface and HijackThis will quickly scan your system.
* Once the scan is complete the scan button will now read save log. Click this button to save the log file to your PC. Once you select where you would like to save the file it will open in your systems default text editor. Typically this application is Notepad. Post the log here.
