hi, have been haunted with this for over a week now, have done safe mode scans / removals, bootime scans/removals and the little blighter keeps coming back.. spybot keeps detecting and deleting but as said it regenerates from somewhere sometimes taking a day or 2 to reappear..

Hi,

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. many thanks for the reply, you have merely confirmed my suspicions (unfortunately).. the perils of trying to get free internet soccer eh.... never again..

I must admit to not doing any banking once this was installed so hopefully i spotted it in time ... I have done a full reformat and clean install of windows

couple of quick questions if you dont mind...

I transferred a lot of my personal stuff onto an external hdd (pics, wmvs etc) will these be safe to re-use

I currently run spybot (& teatimer) alongside avast antivirus, is there anything else you would recommend??

I believe your external hard drive contents are safe. It seems you didn't have flash infection there that would spread itself on usb removable drives.

Among those you have installed it's recommended to have 3rd party firewall installed unless your system is behind a router with NAT enabled. For firewall I suggest either Online Armor Free (http://www.tallemu.com/free-firewall-protection-software.html) or Comodo Firewall Pro (http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html#fw3.0) (If you choose Comodo: Uncheck during installation "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage" and install firewall ONLY!).

supposed to have a router firewall with NAT enabled, perhaps this is what saved my bacon, have checked paypal, banking etc to change passwords and all appear untouched.... can now get on with getting my pics etc back....
