View Full Version : Recovery after unknown malware

I am recovering after being infected with some malware, I not sure what.
I have two hard drives on my computer each with a bootable windows xp sp3. The malware infected one system and the when I rebooted to the other system it infected that too. The system would give "this program needs to close" message for most system programs. I installed a new copy of xp sp3 on my c: drive, but I did not do a reformat of that
drive. The malware appears to be held in check, I can run msconfig,
and all other programs again, but I do get unprompted messages like this from
teatimer:

spybot deletingA7764
command.com /c del "c:\program files\Microsoft Common\Svchost.exe",

which lead me to believe that the malware is not entirely gone, I've
denied these requests in teatimer.
I have installed most of the software this forum has recommended. But
I would like and expert to look over my logs to see if the malware is
indeed gone. Thank you for your help.

Malware can spread between HD's and usb memory also.


I installed a new copy of xp sp3
Installing a new copy of XP without reformatting wont remove malware from that drive.

that svchost shouldnt be running out of C\program files.

* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
*** Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.***
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
