View Full Version : Wiley Virus, Multiple symptoms

This is my last attempt at resolving this problem before going through a full restore on my system. My symptoms seem to be getting progressively worse. I've researched the symptoms and, while I've found others sharing most of them, the suggested fixes have not been successful for me.

I've run scans with my AVG antivirus software, Malwarebytes, Spybot, SuperAntivirus, Adaware, Online Armor, Comodo Registry Cleaner, and Advanced System Care. When problems first started (disappearing Desktop icons) I scanned the system with Malwarebytes and found a Vundo virus. Eliminating that virus seemed to solve my Desktop issue, but, others started following.

Subsequent scans have turned up Win32/Cryptor and some smaller adware stuff, but, having cleaned (or quarantined) those, I am still having problems that cannot be solved or detected by all those scanning packages.

Current Symptoms:
- Loss of restore point and inability to create restore points (space is not an issue, I have 59gb available)
- Loss of Defrag utility
- Unable to download updates to most of the scanning software or access MS-MSRT, will state server blocked or site not available
- I've tried downloading the latest version of Spybot but cannot access download site.
- Downloaded MSRT off another PC and tried to then move it to my PC and run it....it wouldn't activate
- Trying to navigate to WindowsUpdate site and was redirected to the Google search page.
- IE7 will not activate. I am running Firefox instead.
- Cannot access and install Windows XP Service Pack 3.
- The very latest issue.....loss of audio.


The following is the current picture of my system through Hijackthis. My thanks up front for any insight into this situation. If I do have to reinstall my OS, so be it. I'm far from enthusiastic about the idea as much has accumulated on my system over the last couple of years that would have to be reinstalled as well. However, this has come down largely to determining the cause for my own sense of closure.

Hi,

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:


Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.


Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.


When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:
