Running 1.6.2

I just downlaoded and installed 1.6.2. Downloaded ok and installed ontop of 1.6.0. It appeared to open and did the updates for 1.6.2. Then it closed, now unable to run spybot to do a scan. Tried to open with rt mouse click but nothing happened. Previous version always worked but was slow in opening..
Windows XP Pro SP3
Firefox and IE used intermittently.

We are sorry, but this seems to be a little bug in Spybot. It can appear when you minimize your Spybot and then close it by ticking the "x" in the menu bar for closing the program.

You have three choices to solve this problem:

1. Download this fix.

After downloading the zip file, extract the included .reg file and double-click it to add it to the registry.

(Content:REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Safer Networking Limited\SpybotSnD\UI\Forms\formMain] "WindowState"=dword:00000000)

2. Edit the registry by:
(a)
press windowskey + r then enter "regedit" (without quotation marks)
or
(b)
click on "start" , then "run" and enter "regedit" (without quotation marks)
(a+b)
and then browse to the path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Safer Networking Limited\SpybotSnD\UI\Forms\formMain

and change the value from:
"WindowState"=dword:00000000 bzw. "WindowState"=dword:00000001
to:
"WindowState"=dword:00000000 bzw. "WindowState"=dword:00000000

3. Make a fresh install of Spybot - Search & Destroy.
Please uninstall Spybot - Search & Destroy according to the following link:

Then make a fresh install of Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2.

Almost there

Hi Sandra,

Thank you for all your guidance. I downloaded the fix and added it to the registry.

I'm still lost when it gets to changing the value. The value shown is 0x00000000 (0).

When I try to edit it I get the dialog “Edit DWORD Value,” with a field to enter the Value
data that gives me the option Hexadecimal (default) or Decimal.

When I enter the recommended value and click OK, nothing changes.

Now I foud that by right clicking on WindowState and selecting Modify Binary Data
I get a dialog that reads:

0000 00 00 00 00 . . . .

If I try to alter these values I get a dialog saying: Invalid DWORD Value. :hair:

Please help.

If you downloaded, extracted and executed the registry fix than you shouldn't need to edit the registry.

Without Spybot running, execute the registry fix then start Spybot.
