Hi,

I have recently received a true "hand me down" computer, but it's all I have to work with, so I am really trying to get it running well. (or at least better). When starting the computer, it will take easily 20 mins to go from the initial start (applying security policies, etc) then logging on, then to have the actual computer function (it takes a long time for the screen to display anything on my desktop, or for me to type/click something and have it actually open/appear on the screen) I have tried disk clean up and AVAST! virus scan, but both times the computer stops down the line and just goes to a black screen that has "Boot Error: insert disks to reboot" written on the top of the screen. I don't have the initial system disks for this computer. Is there anything that can be done? Someone suggested that it could be a virus or a corrupted hard drive, so I wanted to check. Below is my HiJack This Log:

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.

Randy? It is unlikely I will be able to help, but I will do what I can. I see no malware in the HJT log (does not mean something could not be hidden) but the symptoms seem to suggest this is likely hardware issue.
Keep in mind what we do here is remove malware.

It's a shame your don't have the CD's that came with the system, that will make your job tough. Let's start with this google:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whssoftware/thread/dc9e8b09-e108-4465-9d12-00ad23d9b7ad/
sounds like like the same or a similiar issues and the information may help. Here is the complete google to look through.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Boot+Error%3A+insert+disks+to+reboot&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

Let's see if you can run this free online diagnostic: http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp
Unless you are a member, click New Members and follow the prompts to register "free" and run the diagnostic tests. (not need to purchase anything)
When you finish, post a link to the test results, which will look similiar to this:
http://pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=21607897

If we can get those results we may get some answers.

Thanks...Phil
