When I install new software, I usually close the resident portion of Spybot S&D to avoid nagging about registry changes. In the past, I would restart the resident portion of Spybot S&D by double-clicking teatimer.exe, but teatimer.exe does not exist in version 1.6.2 of the program. How do I restart the resident portion of Spybot S&D after having closed it?

Hi mumia-w-18,

welcome to Safer Networking Forums. :)

Open Spybot-Search&Destroy. Go to
Mode > Adavanced Mode > Tools > Resident
and choose
Resident Tea Timer.

Best regards,
-Matt-

Thanks, but that does not work. Even after re-enabling the resident teatimer
under "Tools," the teatimer icon does not reappear in the system tray.

Open Taskmanager and look for Teatimer.exe. Is it on your list?

Teatimer.exe appears, but its icon does not appear in the system tray. I wouldn't be able to control the teatimer again if I needed to.

You will not find TeaTimer in the Task Manager if you have exited manually.

Give it a reboot (TeaTimer should be checked in the Tools section) and TeaTimer should restart?

Spybot gives you the choice to enabled TeaTimer during installation and also the option to enable and disable it in Advanced Mode.

Thank you Matt and drragostea,. When I log out and log back in, teatimer's icon reappears. As a new feature, I would like the teatimer to place itself back into the system tray after it's been closed manually. Thanks everyone.

TeaTimer.exe exists. Make sure that it is just not hidden as protected operating system file:
Using Windows Explorer navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
In the Tools menu select Folder Options…
In the Folder Options dialog select the View tab.
Under the "Hidden files and folders" options:
Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Not "Do not show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the following option:
Hide protected operating system file (Recommended)
Click the Apply button.
Click the OK button.
The files should now be displayed
Note: If you uncheck the "Hide protected operating system file (Recommended)" option to view Spybot's executables, I suggest that you return the option to its original setting when you are done.
_____

After exiting TeaTimer, I normally restart TeaTimer with the following command via Start » Run:
"C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe"

Thank you very much "md usa spybot fan." That worked perfectly. I unhid the Spybot S&D directory, and Teatimer.exe was there. Now I can exit the teatimer, restart it, and its icon returns to the system tray as expected.

As I indicated above, I do not believe that you should keep the "Hide protected operating system file (Recommended)" option unchecked.

If you go into Start » Run enter the command I cited above:
"C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe"
That command will be stored and you use that easily in the future when required.

Thanks. I re-enabled the setting.
