I need other information also, it is obvious you are using McAfee as your antivirus program and your firewall, but I see this item running from your services:

Since you appear to have a marker for the Smitfraud trojan, we will run a check to see if it is there. To recap:

1) Let me know just what steps you followed.

2) Let me know what is going on with the two antivirus programs.

3) Please download SmitfraudFix (http://www.geekstogo.com/modules.php?modid=5&action=download&id=80) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi pskelly,
I had originally posted on the spybot-s&d forum, I was given some instructions to follow by md usa spybot fan. These instructions lead me here. As far as the McAfee and Nortons conflict I was given a phone number thru McAfee for total removal of Norton(Symantec). I did this on the 15th of May and also again just a few minutes ago after I read your reply to me. So I think that problem is resolved. Question. Do I also need to remove the Norton (Symantec) removal utilities for you to help me?

Hello Brigett, thanks for the feedback and I had another look. As far as I can see all Norton/Symantec programs have been removed. The one I am asking about is this:
O23 - Service: Firewall service (FWSvc) - WinSoftware, Ltd. - C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\FWSvc.exe
As far as I know this program has nothing to do with McAfee or Norton/Symantec. The link that was under it was to show you that running two antivirus program at once is something both Symantec, Microsoft and McAfee I am sure all advise against. We have had issues with Winfixer installing itself without the owners knowledge or concent. This would be the first time I personally have see it running from services. If you did not install it, I just need to know that so we can get it off your computer. If you did install it, the same thing needs to occur.

This BHO: O2 - BHO: Nothing - {f79fd28e-36ee-4989-aa61-9dd8e30a82fa} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp5E9D.tmp
is a marker for the Smitfraud trojan, and the instruction I posted will give us a look at any active infection present so we can move on the the removal steps. We certainly are going to proceed with the cleanup as soon as you post the report from SmitfraudFix and a new HJT log. The issues with WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 we will take care of during the fix.

I hope I explained so that you understand. I looked over earlier posts to see what had been done so far.

Looks like we are both posting at the same time:laugh: Please follow these directions.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

A. Please download the trial version of Ewido anti-malware from here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install Ewido anti-malware.
When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
When you run Ewido for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
The program will now go to the main screen.
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
Click on Start.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close Ewido.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
Ewido manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/). Make sure to close Ewido before installing the update.

B. Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Login on your usual account.

C. Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

D. Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:
Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.
On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
Click OK.
Next Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Display. Click on the Desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the Web tab. Under Web Pages you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. Click Ok then Apply and Ok.

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

E. Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start Ewido, and run a full scan.
Click on Scanner
Click on Settings
Under How to scan all boxes should be checked
Under Unwanted Software all boxes should be checked
Under What to scan select Scan every file
Click on Ok
Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
Let the program scan the machine.
If Ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says Perform action on all infections and put a checkmark in the box next to Create encrypted backup, then choose clean and click Ok.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save Report.
Click Save Report button
Save the report to your Desktop
Close Ewido and Reboot in Normal Mode.

F. Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

I can hear a clicking noise when I try to select my server as my home page. I can use another server, I tried msn.com and google.com, but mine will still not load, I just see the computer trying to connect to no avail. Now what is this?

Good morning Brigett, Let's look over your logs first. I see you have other issues, I am here to remove your malware. Once we have a clean log I will see if I can do anything with these issues.

1) ewido anti-malware - Scan report Created on: 10:14:01 PM, 5/21/2006
I suggest care when considering screensavers, most of the free ones come bundled with adware problems.
Weatherbug is also adware based, if you must use a weather tool, try this one that is free of adware: http://tropicdesigns.net/weatherpulse.php

2) I see no feedback from you concerning this program, so I will treat it as something that does not belong:
O23 - Service: Firewall service (FWSvc) - WinSoftware, Ltd. - C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\FWSvc.exe
Since your are running both a firewall and antivirus from McAfee, we will remove it unless you know something I don't?

Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to Firewall service and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type (FWSvc) and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

3) Start > Control Panell > Add Remove programs and uninstall WinAntiVirus Pro 2 if there and any other program you know does not belong there. If you are unsure about any, let me know and I will look.

Before we use HJT I want to point out that your Comcast and Yahoo toolbars are both missing files, as such they are not working right if at all. If Comcast is the server you are having issues with, you may have to download their software again. I would discuss this with Comcast. The Yahoo toolbar, if you use it, download it again once we are finished.

That noise is most often the Google toolbar blocking a popup. When it happens you should see flashing on the Google toolbar. Try clicking there and allowing popups for that sight, then try to sign in to that server again. You can change that setting later if you need to. Under the Options tab on the Toolbar, look for Popup Blocker settings on the Browsing tab. There is an option there to turn the sound off. Assuming Comcast is the server you are talking about, the damaged BHO might also have to do with the issue. I would contact Comcast about these issues.

If you are checking the box "Remember me" next to user and password, you have exausted my knowledge concerning sign in issues. I would suggest you contact Team Spybot: http://www.spybot.info/en/contact/index.html

Hi Phil,
Good morning to you too. I seewhat you have put about the WeatherBug, well I do not need that. Shoot I can look outside and guess better than the local weatherman. To bad I don't get paid for this knowledge.LOL So any ways, we can remove this. As for Firewall service O23, remove it. when I went through the steps to disable it you said to click stop, but that was not an option . It said Start???But I continued with the next step and that was toclick to disable. Done. Delete the service with HJT done. Step 3 is where I am now...I do not see the WinAntiVirus Pro 2...maybe it looks different?? I don't know.

That's no problem, as long as it is not running along with McAfee. Continue with the instructions and then along with the HJT log, let me see this information:
add/remove in the control panel.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

We also want to check to make sure this folder is deleted:
C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\ <<< Delete the folder
Have you figured out how that program got there to start with?

One more thing that I need to ask. There is an icon by the time it has a lock on it and when I place the cursor over it it reads Spybot-SD resident 1173 processes black listed...what is this...is it something that I need to worry about or is that what it should read?

If your version of Spybot is up to date, it will be Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 (Latest detection update: 2006-05-19)

Your uninstall list...I am looking for malware or problem programs. You might want to look for stuff you no longer use or don't know what is to clean it from your drives. Here is what I see:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Phil,
Hi again. I ran Spybot-SD, here are 2 items that came up. What do I do with them? Are they good or bad?? I do not see the version# of Spybot that I am running, but I did update. It says that I am up to date.
