View Full Version : A program is trying to access e-mail addresses
Canon350d
2006-05-22, 01:25
Microsoft outlook 2002 ( don't want to upgrade as it syncs with my PDA)
Keep getting message from outlook
A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in outlook. Do you want to allow this ?
If this is unexpected,it may be a virus and you should choose "No".
I have not been allowing access
Seems to have happened after latest windows updates but I also opened an email of jokes that contained pictures called Jimmy Carr small adds - quite funny ( but not if it caused this )
Have Norton security suite 2004 full scan advises no virus
Microsoft spyware same - anyone any ideas or help please
Thanks

Absolutely nothing jumping out at me from your HJT log.
Let's try this scanner to see if it finds anything.
It won't "fix" anything but I simply want you to run it to get a log please.
If anything IS found we can advise how to remove it. So just be sure you get the log at the end of the scan and post it back here.
Try the Kaspersky free online scanner.

Let's check for hidden files.
Two free tools I like for you to download and scan with to produce a log
Download Blacklight free trial from F-Secure
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Doubleclick on bibeta.exe to run it.
Click the *I accept* button near the bottom of that page.
Download and run blacklite click > scan then > next, next again then exit
there will be a new text file near blacklite.Post it please. The text file is named:
fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
!!Do not rename any files yet
............
Please download Rootkit Revealer
http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/rootkitrevealer.html
(link is at the very bottom of the page)
Unzip it to your desktop.
Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
Click the Scan button (bottom right)
It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running - leave the PC idle)
When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here

You missed some of my questions and one of the programs I needed a log from:
Please download Rootkit Revealer
http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/rootkitrevealer.html
(download link is at the very bottom of the page)
Unzip it to your desktop.
Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
Click the Scan button (bottom right)
It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running - leave the PC idle)
When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here

And my question:
What is in this folder?:
C:\1XP
Do you know what it is?

Hi again,
I ran rootkit revealer and it found nothing and prodiced an empty .txt file but I have attached it anyway so not sure if whatever it is that is causing the prob is stopping it from working. It did do a full scan and ran for a long time.
I also ran Norton again and it came back with nothing - could it be norten anti spam trying to access mail ?
The folder C:\1xp is one I created and I made a web page up with all my links on so that is my start page. All the other files in there are ones i made or placed in there.
Mail is still advising same message and locking up when I deny access to the prog trying to access emails.
Hope that is ok I am still not sure on how to proceed ?
Any ideas ?
Thanks

Hi Canon350d,
I'm not often stumped but on this one I am. I can only tell that I can't find any malware issues causing the message.

Hi
I appreciate all the time and thought you have given this and it is not through lack of effort on your part.
I have active sync installed for my PDA so I am going to remove that just in case it is causing the prob.
I will then disable email scanning by Norton to see if that may be the cause.
After that it will be head scratch time but thanks very much you do this voluntarily and have helped me in the past so don't worry.
Blinking computers :bigthumb:
Canon350d I will close this topic now.
Good luck!
