I have spybot on my own pc, all is good.

On my friend's, she never downloaded it and now it slows to a crawl downloading anything past one page or two after you first turn it on.

SInce I can't download spybot or anything else, I figure the PC is probably infected with too much spyware, how can I clean it up so I can download and get spybot running? Is there a CD I can buy to clean the spyware off without loading a program I don't want or need?

Does Spybot provide a CD with removal software and then I can clean it up enough to download the program?

Thanks for any info.

Yes, it is a friend's pc at her home. I really think it is just spyware as she can use the pc for anyting else, just gets real slow when surfing anywhere, she thinks it must be that. We cleared the temp internet folders, it is jus treal slow after a few minutes of going to a few sites. Would e nice if I could load SpyBot on a CD and insert it in the drive and just run it from there, can that be done? Afer we clear it then I could download the program and she could run it weekly after getting updates. Thanks for help.

If you mean Spybot-Search&Destroy, you can always burn the installer on a CD or load it into a flash drive and then install Spybot on her machine.

This is great news! Any chance you could tell me how to do that? I have tried but not having any luck copying it. I tried to find the main file but it is not in the folder from Start, All programs, when I right click there is no copy feature. Can't figure it out...

Hello again patterson.
What you'll have to do is download the installer for Spybot-Search&Destroy again. Just drag and drop to your portable media and you're good. Download Spybot-SD from SaferNetworking Servers:

Good luck.

tried to download to C:\spybotsd162.exe but only downloads 39.6 kb in 6 seconds and then says "downlaod complete". Had this happen before on her pc a long time ago and also just did this on mine. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again.

What kind of Internet Connection are you using?
Can you try this one?

And what browser are you using to download the file?

The site you provided did work! Thanks as the other ones did not. I was able to load on her pc and do a scan, picked up about 6 spywares. However, she just switched to Comcast Cable and did not cancel her Earthlink Dail-up account yet so I think she is getting a conflict somewhere, Earthlink has an icon in the lower right tray saying "earthlink alsways on" when you scroll over it even though she did not want that and they were only for her dial-up before. Do you know if this is the case? She said she did not want to cancel Earthlink until she was sur Comcast would work properly, but I think Earthlink has a way to hijack into her high speed connection or something. Thanks again and for any help with this new problem.

I'm not sure what is conflicting. Have her disable (uninstall would be better) the Earthlink Dial-up software (I don't know if it might help because you need authorization to connect via dial-up). Cable should provide you with a modem, so you can just access the Internet snap like that, no login credentials for cable (most of the time).

I'm also curious on the spyware detected. Can you bring up a log of the fixes? Or you can briefly look Recovery tab and type out the names.

sorry for the delay, she has not been using her pc lately so I can't get any further until she does. Aftter we uninstall the earthlink I will let you know if it works, might be awhile though. Thanks again for your help!
