Can you please share with me the steps to fix this problem? It would be most appreciated. I am running Win XP on a Dell laptop. I had some pretty nasty stuff on my PC that I think I have finally removed using SBS&D and a few other programs. I found a video showing removal tips on YouTube. One of the offending programs was called Virtumond. It seems to be gone, however, I am still unable to change the picture of my desktop. Initially after my PC was infected, my desktop pic was changed to a black background with a blinking spyware ad in the center. After running the above mentioned removal programs, the black screen with the ad has gone away from my desktop. Now I have the white screen with the "Active Desktop Recovery" message on it. When I go to the Display Properties screen under the desktop tab, I am unable to change my desktop pic, and the black screen with the spyware warning in the center is seen in the preview window. Also I am unable to click on or scroll through the pics available for my desktop. But I can still see the names of the pics. The last one on the list looks a little suspect. It has a funny looking icon and in lower-case it says "ahtn". Thats about all I can tell you. Can you PLEASE help me? Any advice you can offer would be most appreciated. Oh yeah, here's the link to the post I read where this problem was addressed with another user.
