If it was indeed, "false" like you say SpyHunter would have been removed from Spybot's database long ago.

Has the situation changed re SpyBot & SpyHunter?
Have SpyBot made any changes to the software ? It now seems to have altered my HOSTS file to prevent access to the Enigma Website.

Read about WOT's scorecard about Enigma's site in the meantime.

I don't think the situation will change anytime soon.

However, how come SpyBot prevents access to the Enigma website without giving me the option.

Come on, everybody knows that you're working for Enigma ;)

If it now altered your hosts file, you haven't updated Spybot in about half a year, but installed updates from half a year ago now.

How comes that you need to contruct situations that are months old and have long since changed?

Not so. I started using SpyHunter about two/three years ago when having a problem with TrojanVundo. Spybot was reporting it but not clearing it. SpyHunter had the same problem but their tech help gave me a solution. I have had none of the situations others have complained about.

I have been using Spybot for many years now and am very happy with it in all other respects. (Except that teatimer seems to slow down my browsing responses ). The download file I have is Spybot162.exe which I downloaded and installed in Feb 2009.

When trying to update SpyHunter in March I found I couldn't get at the Enigma site.

Are you saying that Spybot no longer changes the HOSTS file? (At all? or just Enigma?). There is a very long list of stuff under the Spybot 'caption'.
Can I delete the whole SpyBot section?

The Home site indicates that 1.6.2 is the latest version. Should I simply download that version from the website as I uninstalled a few days ago whilst trying to sort out the problem.
Can/should I remove the Spybot entries from the HOSTS file ?

Hello,

I'm not talking about the version.
I am talking about the updates.
You do know how to make updates, do you?

For more information on updating please have a look at this link on our website:

Yes I know how to do updates.
But if I download 162.exe directly will it not include the updates?
Or should I reinstall from the 162.exe I have and then download the updates ?
Thanks

Hello,

Do you always reinstall software in order to make updates?

Hi DougH,

But if I download 162.exe directly will it not include the updates?

You need to update Spybot to download the latest detection rules (updates). ;)

OK thanks.

But can/should I delete all the SpyBot entries from the HOSTS file or simply the ones relating to Enigma?

I have downloaded and installed the current version. I have downloaded the updates and run the Immunization process.

I have just checked my HOSTS file and see that Spybot has made a large number of entries. However there are none that relate to Enigma (previously there had been 2 entries) and I can now access the Enigma website. :bigthumb:

Is this what is supposed to have happened ?

Thanks

Exactly. The two entries (enigmasoftware.com and www.enigmasoftware.com) were removed from Spybot’s HOSTS file entries with the 2009-03-18 update.

Since when are vultures considered "little birds"?

1. Investigations of Spyhunter Version 3.9.25 of 18-03-2009 show,
that the software does not comply with the ASCs
(http://www.antispywarecoalition.org) definitions for
classification as malware or spyware.

2. Safer-Networking Ltd. will not give subsequent reviews of older
versions of Spyhunter.

3. Questions about data transfered to the web by Spyhunter should be
addressed to Enigma.

4. If you suspect Spyhunter (later than 3.9.25 of 18.03.2009) of
complying with ASCs definitons for classification as malware,
please send your information to detections@spybot.info
