Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

Your antivirus might delete when you get close to them, thats fine.

Note:
If You have connection problems or those 017's ~85.255.116.173,85.255.112.72, return >
Before doing this write down all the settings, Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, While some connection service's will require them.
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
Do that for every conntection listed.

Think Prevention: Put in place a good hosts file

Repeat that proccess about once or twice a month

Just a quick follow up........seems that "Pipas.A" now shows up with every scan and is not being deleted. Any reason for concern with that one?

Hate to seem like a pest......everyone elses problems seem to get cleared up so easily. Story of my life.

Pipas.A is still showing up in SpyBot scan and it seems that certain searches such as Google searches get re-directed to a different search engine when I click on search results. I guess something is hiding pretty good in there huh?

I can't honestly say I haven't ever visited suspect sites but I certainly haven't during the course of this attempted fix.

Everytime I run FIXWAREOUT I am shown two system 32 EXE files that "dissappear" as you described when I click on them.....obviously identified as malicious by my anti-virus. They have different alfa names every time.

Hi

If pipus.a shows again in a check for problems with SpyBot it might be that
windows defender should be disabled then run fixwareout, later turn on defender again

How to disable: Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Windows Defender Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Windows Defender icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Windows Defender.

I am using a version of Windows Defender that says "BETA 2" and it does not have anything to check under "startup options" nor is there an icon in my taskbar to turn anything off.

It can be scheduled to run a quick or full system scan automatically or to just do a manual scan and there is a "real time protection" box but that is all.

Spybot scans detect and "fix" this pest but it keeps returning and my google search results are redirected when clicked on. Fixware out will always list two Windows System 32 files that when clicked on will dissappear, obviously recognized as evil by my antivirus. They will return as well.

Lets start by fixing that

Your running Hijackthis from a temp and/Or it still hasnt been unzipped, neither is a good idea.
Create a new folder, for instance C:\AntiSpyware
Download the exe from here to that new folder.
http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe
This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong
Make and post a new log

Delete C:\fixwareout and the downloaded fixwareout.zip if you still have it
Its been changed/updated so repeat these instructions

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

What exactly is SpyBot finding ? if its cookies dont worry about them, fix yes but they are nothing to be alarmed about.

can you cafefully delete these files ? (rightclick on each choose delete)
do not doubleclick them , that would couse a re-infection

Just did another Spybot scan........found Advertizing.com, DoubleClick, and MediaPlex.

These seem to show up again and again even after the fix. Sometimes there are a few others.

Thanks.......I just made these changes.........


Open Internet Options | Privacy, click on the Advanced button.
Place a check in "Override automatic cookie handling".
Set "First Party Cookies" to Prompt, set "Third Party Cookies" to Block.



The pop up window is a little much but at least I can decide what cookies are allowed, right? Will that help?

okay.....a new pest, sorry.

Spybot keeps finding "Windows Security Center.AntiVirusOverride" and it keeps returning.

I am also receiving a notification "your computer may be at risk" on my computer that my Virus Protection status is unknown. I checked it and it seems to be working properly but according to my Security Center it is now unsure of the status......I am sure these problems are related somehow.
