Smitfraud-C Removal [Archive] - Safer-Networking Forums

My Computer is infected. Smitfraud C & Tibs picked up with Spybot & Adaware. Spybot removes but it comes back. Adaware usually freezed part way through scan or when "fixing".

I've attempted to follow instructions from forum and will try to post the results. Here goes...

Hello PCarson and welcome to the forum. Looks like the fix did the job:bigthumb: how is the computer running, any issues to mention? There is some clutter, let's remove it like this:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {77701e16-9bfe-4b63-a5b4-7bd156758a37} - (no file)
(next is safe I suppose, I just question allowing any site that much access to your computer...your call)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

(if you clean your own Prefetch when needed, fine. If not I suggest you read the link and follow the directions)

Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)

Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

I want to point out that if you do not own SpySweeper, you may want to uninstall it, I do not believe you get any benefit from the resources being used when it is running.

Last, it does appear you are not using McAfee for antivirus protection, rather for spyware. That is fine, see this information:
