windows securitycenter deactivated

Hi. A few days ago I got a message from the windows securitycenter that said it had been compromised. It disappeared from my taskbar and I can’t activate it.

I thought I would be able to fix it on my own so prior to registering here and asking for help I have tried the following programs and removed anything suspicious they detected:
Spybot - Search & Destroy, Ad-aware (quick scan), AVG Free (full scan), Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (quick scan), SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition (full scan)

AVG is running all the time now and has since I installed it has given me notices about C:\System Volume Information\ A0000110.exe and A0000110.dll

AVG is running all the time now and has since I installed it has given me notices about C:\System Volume Information\
Those are probably infected System Restore files, they can not harm you unless you use the infected System Restore point.

Let's have a look like this:

1) Please DO NOT ENABLE Spybot S&D TeaTimer while we work together.

(no need to download again, but make sure you update (Database version: 1844) and run MBAM as instructed)

2) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Another question I have, I use AVG 8 free and it appears you do also but I see version AVG 8.5 in the uninstall list, do you know if that is a Swedish version?

Let's also clean System Restore and run a scan with AVG to see what it shows, like this:

Clean the System Restore files like this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

AVG scan:
* Right click the icon for AVG in System Tray and choose Open AVG User Interface.

* Click on Update now, allow AVG to download and install any new updates.

* Click on Computer Scanner then choose "Scan whole computer", this takes a round one hour on the computer I am using now.

* Near the bottom above the words "The scan is complete" choose "Export overview to file"

* Choose Desktop and give it a name you will recognize like AVG Scan Results, then choose SAVE.

* Close results and close the Interface.

* Copy and paste the contents of that file unless it is clean and the results of the trojan scan on lsiela.dll

I'm not very good at keeping track of updates so that secunia program looks promising. I'll make see to that the updates get installed.


Another question I have, I use AVG 8 free and it appears you do also but I see version AVG 8.5 in the uninstall list, do you know if that is a Swedish version?

The version I have has just been released I think and the program is in English so I doubt it's a regional version.

That's kind of tough, it could be part of a valid program. Google does not know it:

As you can see the only times it comes up are in your posts.

Have you tried Search Companion?
Start > Search > All files and folders > Search/OK. It may take a wile, there is a lot of files to search through.

If you can not locate the file and you are not having any malware issues, you may be better off leaving that alone.

Yeah I usually search on google anytime I see a suspicious file on my computer. Since I read somewhere that malware usually ends up as a 020 - appinit_dlls and hardly ever legitimate programs it made me a bit worried.

Yes I allways use that when I search for files on my computer.

The AVG scan is done and it came out clean aside from a couple of tracking cookies that have been taken care of.

I just thought of something though, a while ago I installed a tool that would allow my ISP to control my computer to fix a problem I had with my internetconnection. They also provided an uninstaller that I used afterwards but perhaps that file has been left behind? I'm sorry I didn't mention this before but since I ran the uninstaller I expected it to be gone.

Can you ask your ISP technical folks if that is left from them? They can probably tell you then how to remove it.

I asked them and they said it is not form their program. The uninstaller is supposed to remove all files and registry changes it make.

So I guess there is nothing left to do now, I'm stuck with an unknown file running?

Unless you can locate it? I need to know if it is even there. Let's see what HJT does:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: lsiela.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Restart the computer and see if it's gone.

I did what you asked, the file is gone and the computer started without problems :).

I just have a little follow up question, the two files in the hijackthislog that say
O23 - Service: Norman API-hooking helper (NipSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Norman\Nvc\BIN\nipsvc.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: SupportSoft RemoteAssist - Unknown owner - C:\Program\Delade filer\SupportSoft\bin\ssrc.exe (file missing)

can I hit fix checked on those aswell or would that be a bad idea? Otherwise I'll just leave them there for now.

It's up to you, if you don't need them, you can disable them. HJT will even delete them for you if you wish. Here is information about services.

the process to disable is (using the first one as an example)

Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to Norman API-hooking helper and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type Norman API-hooking helper and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

Repeat the process for the second service.

If there are no other issues?
