It seems whatever my computer has doesn't like Spybot. Whenever I tried to run spybot, the thing would either not launch at all, or immediatly stop responding and close. I tried to go to the website to redownload it, but I can't load anything with safernetworking.org in the address.

So, I redownloaded spybot from a mirror, but it still wasn't working. So, I renamed the program file and the .exe, and it was able to launch! However, when I try to run the scan, it demands Detection Updates. When I try to use the updater, I get and error that reads:

"Error retrieving update info file!

Socket Error #10060
Connection timed out."

So, I downloaded the detection updates from another mirror, and I got them. Which is aces. But Spybot's still demanding some detection updates, so I'm thinking maybe I haven't got them installed correctly? I'm so close to getting my compy cleaned, and I could use some help here amigos :).

Hello,

Please take a look at the security settings of your firewall (if you are using one) and make sure that Spybot-S&D is not blocked. That should help to get into the updates. If Spybot-S&D is not blocked it is also possible that our server is temporarily not available. Please try again a few hours later.

If this does not help please download the updates manually:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Here is the direct download link (http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe).
Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.

Best regards

Thank you very much!

I was able to install the includes properly and run Spybot. The culprit was identified as "Win32.TDSS.rtk" and Spybot was able to remove 5 instances of it. However, there were 3 that couldn't be removed because they were currently in memory. Spybot offered to launch on the next restart, I said okay and restarted, but Spybot was still unable to remove the last 3 instances of it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get this garbage off of my compy?
