If someone could help me figure out what the problem is I would appreciate it very much. I've done a fully updated Spybot S&D scan and a fully updated Avast! scan and neither of them have found anything.

Thanks so much for any help in advance.

Hi dshap

Have you uninstalled avast! ?

I ask because I don't see it running.

dshap
2009-03-25, 16:28
No, I still have avast!

I don't use the resident protection or whatever thing constantly runs in the background because I want to have maximized performance. In retrospect this is probably a mistake because if I had it on I probably would not be in my current mess.

Any signs from my HJT log that something funky is going on?

Thanks for the reply...

OK but that might have prevented you to get infection at all. It makes no sense to disable it to get maximum performance.

So please enable real-time protection of avast! and post back a fresh hijackthis log.

Ok resident protection is now enabled and I have verified that the avast! services are running.

It seems that I constantly have "odanezudu.dll" popping up in my startup registry even after I remove it - what exactly is this? I'd like to both understand the problem with my computer as well as how to fix it, if you don't mind explaining I'd really appreciate it.

Also, when I try to change my startup registry now it says "An access denied error occurred when attempting to change a service...please log in as an administrator." I never got this before and I used to always be able to change what programs startup with my computer - do you know how this can be fixed?

Below is my most recent HJT log. Thanks so much for the help:

That is part of certain infection.

We will continue with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
c:\windows\odanezudu.dll
c:\windows\system32\mmmjtzjl.dll

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Wlilunufuqosej"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\ati1hnxx.sys]

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

http://img.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/hijackthis/uninstall-man.jpg

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.
