Hi,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Yesterday I receved the following email from Sandra Klass [detections@spybot.info], Team Spybot. I followed here directions and emailed her the reports that she asked for.
Hello John,
With some Virtumonde infections we currently need to customize our detection rules, to do this we require a full Spybot S&D report.
Please do another scan with Spybot S&D, once the scan is finished right click the scan results list and choose to save a full report to your desktop.
Email this report to us so we can determine which steps need to be taken to help you with the removal of this malware.
Attached is a start_me.zip file containing a batch file. Please unzip and rename the folder_info.ba# into folder_info.bat. Then execute the file by doubleclicking on it. It will create 6 text files on your desktop which contain the file listings of the folders they are named after. Please attach these text files to your next e-mail.

Today I receved an email from Van Vi Truong detections [detections@spybot.info]stating:
Hello John, your computer is not infected with Virtumonde, it is a false positive that occurs with the outdated version of Spybot S&D. To fix this issue please upgrade to Spybot S&D 1.6.2 best regards Van Vi Truong

This moring I saw your message (from Blade81) on the forum and I am wondering what to do. I did go to the Spybot download page and installed Spybot S&D 1.6.2 on my computer. I also wanted to check here on the forum to find out what is the correct path to resolving this issue and getting my computer free of malware. Please let me know what my next step should be in cleaning up my computer.

Hi John

I didn't see any vundo related there and that's why asked for other logs. If you had old version of Spybot then false alarm is probably right explanation and explains why there wasn't any sign of infection in the log :)

However, you need to upgrade to the latest Java.


Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

Updating Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 13 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp).
Click the
Download
button to the right.
Select Windows on platform combobox and check the box that says:
Accept License Agreement. Click continue.

The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u13-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version. Uncheck MSN toolbar if it's offered there.

I installed the 1.6.2 version of Spybot and virtumonde does not show up. Thank you to all of the Spybot tech folks for you help.
