Help, cleaned up, but is it really cleaned??

Hi there,

I need help please ..

25 Mar evening when browsing some shopping sites on the internet, Spybot S&D warned me about some changes, which I denied. Wasn't really think much about it as I wasn't visiting any dodgy sites and continue browsing for some more minutes before turning the laptop off.

26 Mar morning I run Spybot update and check, the result showed that it was infected with Win32.TDSS.rtk, Win32.banker.xe, and Win32.agent.pz.
Also that some warning that the firewall is not on (i think this warning is from the system
So then I clicked Fix the problem, but Spybot says omething that it needs to shut down and restart again to complete the removal. On restart, it took ages and really made me panick. After quite sometime, it finished and found one of them still there, unfortunately I can't remember whether it was the banker or the tdss ... anyway I clicked fix again, and delete the 3 of them from the Recovery list. Then I did System Restore to restore point 25 morning. On restart it said that System Restore was incomplete.

So I run Spybot again and found nothing, but in the middle of the scan, my Symantec Anti virus told me that the Auto protect was disabled ! (I didn't do it!).

Then I tried to do system restore about 3-4 times, each time choosing earlier and earlier date. All March date was came back as System Restore was Incomplete. Finally managed to get a succesfull system restore to 25 Feb.

Update the Spybot again, and run the check. All is clear.
But again, my Symantec Anti virus disabled itself.

This morning I update antivirus and my Spybot dan ran check, all still clear.
But at some point my antivirus again, disabled the auto protect by itself.
This made me worried that my computer is not as clean as it should be,
Can someone please help me to see if this if they are removed and it's cleaned now ?

Pinned (sticky) to the top of this forum, and posted above are the directions, make sure you have read and followed them.

The infection you describe rarely shows in the HJT log, hackers have learned to hide from that tool. From the HJT log I can tell you this.

1) Appears you have not read the directions.

2) I see no malware in this HJT log.

3) TeaTimer is not disabled as instructed in the directions:

When Spybot-S&D is installed.
TeaTimer needs to be disabled so that its protection does not interfere with fixes.

4) HijackThis is not located safely as instructed in the direction:

By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
If you want more information than that, read and follow the directions and post a new HJT log.

The first thing you need to know is those items you mentioned are very bad trojan infections that are almost always hidden from HijackThis, and at least one is a rootkit infection. If you wish to see how bad, google the items for lots of information. http://www.google.com/ I see nothing in this HJT log, if you wish to look more to be sure, then start like this.

1) Please DO NOT ENABLE Spybot S&D TeaTimer while we work together.

2) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Has to do with Symantec and if you have autoupdates you don't have to do anything. When it updates, you can get prompts from Windows and your firewall. What are you running for a firewall?

Keep in mind also, if you allow a bit of time to go by and the antivirus program needs to update, you can get a warning from Microsoft. Wait until the antivirus program is up to date and the warning should go away.

This is System Restore and MBAM usually finds anything there, you don't have System Restore turned off....do you?

Let's do this:

Clean the System Restore files like this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

I only have standard firewall from Windows.
The symantec is always updated everyday.
Now the balloon was not coming up, but I can see a little shield logo with a red cross on the bottom right corner (where the clock is), but it's gone before i can click on it.

No, the System Restore was not turned off.

As per your instructions, I have turn the System Restore off and back on again.
Done the ATF Cleaner. Updated Symantec and did full scan, nothing found.

I have updated Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader and uninstalled the old versions. Also have uninstalled the Java, I think I don't need it for now.

It would be helpful to know what the "little shield logo with a red cross" is, it may be valid and have something to do with Symantec, see if you can find out.

I've managed to take a snap shot to read what it says, it was actually a red shield with a cross, it says
'Your computer might be at risk.
Symantec Antivirus is turned off
Click the balloon to fix this problem'

I've followed your instruction to check the Security Centre and it's 3 buttons are green and on.
Also, in the Symantec itself the AutoProtect option is enable too,
so not sure why it says it's turned off?

This morning I did MBAM scan again. Below are the result.

Either the new version of MBAM added that information to the database, or you picked up a new infection?

I've followed your instruction to check the Security Centre and it's 3 buttons are green and on.
I suggest you contact tech support: http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/index.jsp
I do not use Symantec/Norton and it sounds like everything is working correctly in the Security Center. I believe the issue is with their software and they may want you to reinstall the program.
