View Full Version : Help! Windowsclick on my Dad's PC & Spybot will not run
My Dad's PC has a virus on it. You guys helped get rid of virtumonde on my PC, so I know how knowledgable you are. Spybot will NOT load, so I'm not sure how bad the damage is. I don't know why Spybot will not load, as I installed it normally.

1 - download and run RSIT
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt<- (will be maximized) and info.txt<- (will be minimized)

1 - Download and Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe) and save it to a convenient location.
Double click on mbam-setup.exe to install it.
Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked): Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
Checked (ticked) all items except items in the System Volume Information folder and click on Remove Selected.

After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.
2 - Run Hijackthis
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad

This bugger won't let me run malwarebytes either. I searched around and found that this is a common thread for this particular virus. You guys have suggested I run combofix to fix my earlier problem (which it did). Others with similar problems have run it on other forums. I'm going to run it.
Combofix won't run either! I saved it to my desktop, but it will not run. I then downloaded it again, and it said it can't run combofix[1] and it needs to be changed.
Ok, I got mbam to run by ranming it as an .bat file.
It listed 5 files that said could not be removed and would be added to the delete on reboot list. Here is the log (before rebooting):

Ok, I ran spybot (it now runs) and it found 3 errors (windowssecuritycenter.firewallbypass, regestrychange, and one other). It fixed it, I rebooted, ran spybot again, and it found no problems!).
I then went to Google and did a simple search. No redirect to windowsclick!
PS: I want to delete combofix. I know there is a special way to do it. Do you know how?

Uninstall ComboFix:
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

I tried to disable it via the start menu, but it did not work. I put the executable in the recycling bin and tried to search for it, but no avail. When I typed it in the cmd box, it said windows cannot find "combofix". Make sure you typed the name correctly".

Let's use OTMoveIt3 to remove Combofix
Download OTMoveIt3 (http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTMoveIt3.exe) by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe.
Click the CleanUp! button.
Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

I downloaded the file you suggested and ran it. It worked and deleted itself. I will now download combofix and run it and post the logfile.
I could not install the recovery console because I disabled my internet connection, and the connection could not be enabled when combofix ran.

Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button: Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives
Mail databases Click on My Computer under Scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.

Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad

The scans are fine and it looks like your machine is clean :yahoo:
To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created do the following:
Please download OTCleanIt (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTCleanIt.exe) and save it to desktop.
Double-click OTCleanIt.exe.
Click the CleanUp! button.
Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.
Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTCleanIt attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
Turn off System Restore
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot.
Turn ON System Restore
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
