View Full Version : Many issues, computer slow, Zlob.Download
Hi
A few days ago my computer was infected with virtuomonde and some trojans. By using SPybot S & D with my internet disconnected i was able to get rid of the viruomonde however i still have doubts that it may be on my computer. Spbot S & D also removed some of the trojans and then i also used BitDefender Free Edition Version 10 to remove more of them. However my computer is still slower then before and when i am using internet explorer i still get some popups especially ones telling me to get malware defender 2009 and other spyware protectors and when i search using google toolbar i get some popups saying oops link is broken. The last problem is that when using Spybot S & D i see two infections show up: Zlob.Download and Win32.Agent also sometimes windowsfirewall.bypass comes up. However half way through the scan the screen just goes black and the power is still running but nothing happens so i have to restart the computer. And then sometimes my computer doesn't start up properly as it gets to the blue logon screen, i logon and then it just freezes on that blue screen when it says loading personal settings. I also have AdAware Anniversary Edition on my computer. Could this be causing any interceptions to sypbot? Please could you helop me solve these problems. I have followed the instructions "BEFORE you POST" thread and below is the HJT log.
Thank You

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
The junk can be tough to remove, so do not expect fast or easy.
Pinned (sticky) to the top of this forum, and posted above are the directions, make sure you have read and followed them.
C:\Program Files\Prevx\prevx.exe <<< do you own this program?
You are still infected, let's start removing the junk like this.
1) Please DO NOT ENABLE Spybot S&D TeaTimer while we work together.
2) A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use
Download ComboFix from here:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/RcAuto1.gif
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/whatnext.jpg
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.
*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
Tutorial if needed
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Hi pskelley, thank you for replying
Yes C:\Program Files\Prevx\prevx.exe is a free trial for spyware removal, but it is no use to me and i am looking to uninstall it but thought i should ask you first as i had already posted the HJT log on this thread. Also a few other problems occured now and these are:
1) a box pops up sometimes saying:
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\digiwet.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
The title of this popup box varies but some of the ones i have seen are
"jusched.exe - Bad Image"
"googletoolbarnotifer.exe - Bad Image"
"Blackberrytool.exe - Bad Image"
2) The second problem is that sometimes a error report box is displayed which says CTF Loader had to close for some reason.
I have not yet followed the instruction you gave me and am waiting for the go ahead as these other problems may change what you think would be the best thing to do.
Thank You
Grafix
oh also i have got bitdefender free edition version 10 and i hav checked on how to disable bitdefender but can only find instructions on how to disable the full version and not this free version. Do you know any way to disable it? or can i just install it and look to change my antivirus to something else? Also do i need to disable my firewall for any reason (it is the windows firewall)?
Thank You
Grafix

You should be able to run combofix with Windows Firewall enabled. For BitDefender, just run combofix and we will see how it goes.
Thanks
A box has popped up saying i need to disable Bitdefender antivirus as it may interfere. Should i just still procede with the ComboFix or should i uninstall Bitdefender?
Thank You
Grafix

Let's start with this information and the uninstall list:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282 <<< see this
If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. Help will be withdrawn should you not agree to their removal.
Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.
Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,
Here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested:
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.
Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX
Adobe recommends all users of Adobe Flash Player 10.0.12.36 and earlier versions upgrade to the newest version 10.0.22.87
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb09-01.html
Adobe Reader 7.0.8 <<< out of date and unsafe, see this:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10081618-83.html?tag=nl.e433
http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/
(if you want a smaller program, look at this one)
Foxit Reader 2.3 for Windows (make sure to uncheck any toolbars)
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
LimeWire 4.14.10 <<< p2p, must be uninstalled.
Messenger Plus! Live <<< suggested uninstall, see the link:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/43.html
Viewpoint Media Player
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_137262.htm
Vuze <<< p2p, must be uninstalled.
Please follow the directions carefully and in the numbered order:
1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
2) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:
File::
C:\WINDOWS\omehavonaxehi.dll
c:\windows\uxoqetala.dll
Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\D]
Save this as CFScript
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.
This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)
3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ixanotegix] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\omehavonaxehi.dll",e
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
*Cleaning Prefetch may result in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html
5) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the log from CFScript, the log from MBAM and a new HJT log.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

How is the computer running now?
Thanks
Are you using a USB or Flash drive? Are you sure it is not infected?

Ok along the way i came along one issue which was that when running the scan only feature in HJT i could not find the file shown below:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ixanotegix] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\omehavonaxehi.dll",e
Also when i am starting up my computer it takes a longer time getting to the logon screen - as in the windows xp screen shows with the blue bar going across and then it turns black for a bit and then the logon screen appears, im not sure why this happens but has been happening since the computer has been infected. This isnt really an issue im too worried about aslong as its not something thats infected my computer. If you know a solution then thats good otherwise its ok. And the last issue i know of on my computer now is that PrevX CSI scan finds a 'medium risk malware' at C:\Documents And Settings\Aksat\n (Aksat is my user) but Bitdefender and MBAM seem to be ok with it. Im not sure how reliable that progamme (PrevX) is, i only got it to see if it could remove the problems that were there previously and am looking to uninstall it probably after you give me the go ahead that everything is finished or if you say to uninstall it now? Otherwise the popups have gone from my computer and it doesnt freeze up anymore either :D (THANK YOU). I do use an ipod and have scanned that with the bitdefender free version and have found nothing so that seems clean.
Thank You

Remember if you downloaded infected files on your ipod and then installed them on your computer, you will infect the computer.
I know nothing about this but here is some Google infomation:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+ipod+to+computer+safely+tool&btnG=Search
Make sure you Google any download for safety before using it.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ixanotegix] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\omehavonaxehi.dll",e
Not to worry, it was removed by the CFScript before you used HJT.
Other Deletions
c:\windows\omehavonaxehi.dll
c:\windows\uxoqetala.dll
Also when i am starting up my computer it takes a longer time getting to the logon screen

*Cleaning Prefetch may result in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:

I would like you to uninstall Prevx in Add Remove programs, please do that now.
I would like to have Kaspersky Online Scanner take a look for anything that may be left, follow the instructions carefully.
Do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner(KOS)
http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/languages/english/check.html?n=1213442456390
1. Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.
2. Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
3. The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
4. After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer
5. This will start the program and scan your system.
6. The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
7. Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
8. Now, click on the Save Report as button.
9. Save the file to your desktop.
10. Copy and paste that information in your next post
Thanks
ok i have attempted to uninstall prevX CSI but have found there is no uninstall file :S. ive searched online quite a lot but am unable to find anything on how to uninstall it, apparently though if you do want to uninstall it you may need to do it by manually removing it from the registry and using CCleaner but im not too sure about this. Can you please help me in this? I will run the Kaspersky online scanner tonight and post the log in the morning, as last time i did that it took me 3 hours
Thank You

Are you running scan disk and defrag when needed? Long scan times usually indicate a messed up hard drive.
Defragmenting
http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm
Check for Disk Errors in Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/kbtip.mspx
Wait until we see if KOS reports anything, then we will use CFScript to remove Prevx. I Can't believe they installed a program and gave you no uninstaller yet I don't see one in the uninstall list. Guess I am totally done with those folks.
Thanks

Hi,
ok ive run the kaspersky online scanner but along the way i had very very low disk space (i think due to the constant creation of restore points and the recovery module maybe, i can always sort this out after) so i had to uninstall LG PC Suite and Adobe Reader 9.1 but i can always re install these later so thats ok. Also i emailed prevX support to see what they said and didnt really expect them to reply but they have and they've sent me a link to a file which will force uninstall the PrevX so i'll do that just before following out your next piece of instructions if thats ok with you? Above is the Kaspersky online scanner log.
Thank You

Thanks for the feedback, KOS located only three items quarantined by combofix, which will be removed when we remove it.
i think due to the constant creation of restore points and the recovery module maybe
Lack of disk space can cause many, many problems, first see this information:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx
Open MyComputer > Right click the C drive then click Properties.
Click the General tab and post the amount of Used space and Free space.
Right click MyComputer then click Properties. On the General tab in the bottom right corner is the RAM count, post that information.
If you have instructions for removing Prevx you are comfortable with, use it. Post a new HJT log once you finish so I can make sure it is gone.
See if you can get a diagnostic report here:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp
Register free so you can save the information, post a link to that information. There is no reason to purchase anything, the diagnostic report is free.
Thanks
Hey, sorry its taken me a bit longer to reply this time. ah yes i usually clear my restore points regularly but i think this time i'll wait until after we've finished and then clear them then, but for some reason there is only two restore points now which are from the last two days, so did the previous ones get deleted because i went below 200mb of free disk space? Ive posted the details you wanted below:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
C Drive Properties
Used Space: 14.5 GB
Free Space: 445 MB

I don't know how old the computer is but you have major issues and they are not being caused by malware. You don't even have enough drive space to download Windows Critical Updates: Free Space: 445 MB
and if you posted the correct RAM count I am surprised the computer even runs, have a look here:
http://www.crucial.com/support/howmuch.aspx
As far as free hard drive space, oppinions differly slightly, but you can be sure you have a problem, some information:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/03/06/free-space-to-maintain-in-your-hard-drive/
Most experts has recommended that at least 20% free space of the hard drive should be kept free so that this extra space can be used to store temporary files by applications you use, defragmentation programs, or new files/programs that you add in to you computer. You can consider to upgrade your hard drive if the free space in your hard drive has reduced less than 20%.

Here is some information that might help a little with performance:

http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/getstarted/speed.mspx
I also suggest you look at all of the areas in the PCPitStop diagnostic report: Recommended Fixes
Click each of those links and correct the issues. (I do not suggest you make any purchase) The scan and results are free.
We will remove combofix and do some additional cleaning and that is about all I can do for this computer.
Remove combofix from the computer like this:
Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Clean the System Restore files like this:
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot
Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Update MBAM and scan to be sure we missed none of the junk, there is no need to post a clean scan result.
(MBAM is yours to keep if you wish, update it and run it once a month or so)
Update BitDefender and scan the system, to be sure it is running right and scanning clean. If you have problems with the program, contact tech support for instructions.

Hey, i have uninstalled combofix, removed the system restore files, and done both the scans now. Both scans showed that no infectious files were present. I will also work on freeing more space on my hard disk this weekend but would just like to say thank you very much for all the help that you have provided, it really has helped so much and dont think i would have got very far if i had tried to do all this myself!
Thanks you very much!
