noticed a recent issue with my comodo firewall & thought i would run my spybot. although i was sure i had set it to update automatically, i decided to be sure, so i tried to run the updater but received an error - so then i removed my old version (6.1, i think) using add/remove programs, planning to install the later 6.2, however, when attempting to install (rather then update), i still get an error - server name/address could not be resolved -could be IE8 be creating a conflict? do i have some sort of a bug that is not allowing the update/install? now that i have removed spybot & since i cannot install i don't have spybot available to check.
my machine is running winXPpro sp2. let me know if there is additional info needed to trouble shoot this.

Hello,
During the installation Spybot tries to download the updates.
You can disable this function in the wizard itself.
Just untick the checkbox in front of "download updates during installation" or "Download Updates immediately".
The updates can be downloaded later on.
For more information on updating please have a look at this link on our website:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/update.html
You can also download the updates manually:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Here is the direct download link (http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe direct download link).
Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.
Best regards

unfortunately i found the manual update info you provided here too late ...since i decided to uninstall 1.6.1, i can no longer update automatically or manually.
now that i have uninstalled my old spybot - i want to reinstall the current version. when i try to install the current version i get the error. i have downloaded spybotsd162.exe to my desktop, however, when i attempt to install, i get the error i mention in my original post, 'server name/address could not be resolved'.
finally, even though i have used add/remove programs to uninstall my previous spybot version ther is still a spybot folder in my program files with the following file: advcheck.dll.bak. is this file the problem?
am i doing something wrong? the original install was so easy...the only difference is that i am now running ie8 in lieu of ie6; i still use firefox as my default browser, using ie occasionally.
i am thinking i should check my system for malware, so i will post an HJT log in the appropriate forum.
