Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but unfortuanetly after running combofix my computer was unbootable.
I ran combofix (with all programs closed and anti-virus off) and it said it detected a rootkit and had to restart to delete and continue. There was no option to not do this. It restarted and then carried on and started going through the completed stages. I went and had a coffee and came back to the computer having rebooted and windows saying it can't boot into vista. It said registry was corrupt. Tried everything to boot up, let vista DVD try to repair, then rollback to a saved restore point. No joy. I've had to reformat and re-install vista (hence the delay).
Thanks for all your help, it is much appreciated. I guess i've learned my lesson the hard way.
