malware will not go away using spybot and adaware

friend sent me a weird site the other day and since then my computer has not been working properly. tried using spybot, adaware and avg to remove the infections. but the infections just return after i restart computer.

Since you missed the instructions to disable TeaTimer you need to read the directions again.

I am not seeing malware in the HJT log and you have provided no information about these "infections"? How about telling me what they are, what program is finding them and where are they located (pathway to them?)

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

hi sorry for the lack of details. it seems like my system resources is getting drained from a program running in the background and i believe it's malware related. i scan using adaware and i always find adtmt and mediaplex cookies. i delete these cookies but 5 minutes later, if i rescan, more of these cookies will appear. during these 5 minutes i do not visit any sites besides facebook and my email. i use mozilla firefox and have disabled third party cookies. here are the logs that you requested

Edited for your last post...if TeaTimer is showing in the HJT log, then uninstall Spybot and restart. You can install it later when we finish.


Please disable Adwatch also:
Ad-Aware Ad-Watch
Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray.
At the bottom of the screen there will be two checkable items called "Active" and "Automatic".
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Uncheck both of those boxes.

When that is done, post a new HJT log.

Adwatch is powerful as is TeaTimer and it is difficult to remove stuff and clean properly when those programs are running, but I give up trying to get them turned off.

Let's do this now:

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Browser Address Error Redirector - {CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777} - C:\Program Files\Dell\BAE\BAE.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

3) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

4) Run AVG 8 according to these instructions:

* Right click the icon for AVG in System Tray and choose Open AVG User Interface.

* Click on Update now, allow AVG to download and install any new updates.

* Click on Computer Scanner then choose "Scan whole computer", this takes a round one hour on the computer I am using now.

* Near the bottom above the words "The scan is complete" choose "Export overview to file"

* Choose Desktop and give it a name you will recognize like AVG Scan Results, then choose SAVE.

* Close results and close the Interface.

* Copy and paste the contents of that file unless it is clean.

my apologies about disabling the tea timer and adwatch, i could not seem to disable it so i just uninstalled adaware for the time being. i have done everthing you mentioned in the last post and the avg scan is clean.

well, when i scan with adaware, i am still getting more and more cookies, so i don't think the problem is solved yet.

i am getting atdmt and advertis cookies all the time. also seems that the ram usage of my pc is abnormally high, but i dont see anything suspicious in my ctrl alt del process list.

also it seems like it's only adaware which detects these cookies. avg and spybot do not.

just a question, if there is no way to fix this, would reformatting the computer solve the problem? it's not like i want to but as a last resort would be ok.
