Web browsers and other programs crash constantly!

Experiencing problems with my Dell Inspirion 6400 laptop. Suddenly programs like MSN and VLC started to crash frequently, and now any web browser I use crash constantly. Tried IE 7 & 8, and Firefox 3 and newest Opera. Every single one crashes. I Receive a message that the program needs to close. I have tried everything, spyware scans, registry organizing/cleaning/repairing I don't
know what else to do. Could this be a hardware problem?

I really don't know but I don't think it is malware related and you probably belong at a Windows XP forum. Let's look at a few things first.

1) With "crashes" there is usually and error message, post any you get "word for word".
