View Full Version : Redirect and possible hijack problem

Sometimes when i do searches on google i get redirected to some kind of hotel searching site. I asked for help on my antivirus' forum and they asked me to run a malwarebytes and superantispyware scan. I deleted everything(included the crack for winrar xD). So far, i haven't been redirected to that site yet(probably because i haven't done any heavy searches lately). But i have this other problem where i go to sites(sometimes visited before) it gets turned into a domain discount 24 site or something. A friend recommended to use Ccleaner and i did and the site i went to loaded its normal contents(no domain discount 24) but when i went to tinypic.com(i always use this image host) it became that same domain discount 24 page. That made me realize that the problem wasn't fixed yet. Pages i visit havent been turned into domain discount 24 lately but i just want to be sure if these are fixed or w/e. Wont hurt when you dont leave yourself wide open anyways.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
You must have read and followed the "Before you Post" instructions, there are no excuses for not following the directions.
I am not sure what is going on here, and I had a hard time following what you said. If you don't expect fast or easy, I will do what I can to help you remove malware from the computer. If that works for you start like this.
1) Read and follow the directions, disable TeaTimer as instructed in those directions.
2) If you still have MBAM, you can use it, but make sure you update it and follow the directions I am posting.
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exe <<< download
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
(Database version: 1994 4/17/2009) <<< today
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log (run after MBAM) in your next reply.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I thought Smitfraudfix would show if the hosts file was corrupted but that's a clean scan. Would you remove (delete) Smitfraudfix from the computer.
Let's do a quick check for Conflicker, like this:
1) Click on Start, Run
2) Type MRT and Press Enter
3) You'll be presented with the following screen, click on the Next button
Scan results: If anything is found.
Follow the instructions below to open a notepad.
1) Click on Start, Run
2) Type the following and Press Enter
notepad c:\windows\debug\mrt.log
copy/paste the contents

Hi pskelley,
I have done a scan with Win Malware Removal Tool and it did a clean scan. However, we lost power about 5 minutes after the scan. I tried to open the log but it was somehow gone. Ill try and get another full scan with it later.
I also did the kaspersky online scan and it was all fine. Im not sure if i still have the malware in my computer but so far, i havent been redirected to the hotel search site nor the domain discount 24 site. Ill update the thread once i still have the problem.
Another thing, i did a scan with Spybot S&D and i keep on getting thie ad.yieldmanager or something. Each time i do a scan i keep on getting that problem and fix it. Could this be another one?

Thanks for letting me know, good to hear the Kaspersky scan is clean. As far as Spybot S&D, that item sounds like a tracking cookie, you may not be up to date and/or removing it properly. Look at this information:

I reinstalled with a new download from the site a few days ago as shown on this thread (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=47723).
I had no problems with updating as it said no more updates are available. I also did a full scan after installation as instructed on the tutorials. I also immunized everything after.
Since your first reply on this thread until now, my teatimer is still disabled. I also noticed the ad.yieldmanager on the progress bar of my browser when i logged in my yahoo account.
Heres the MRT log as promised. This is a full scan.

I see that also, but I get no cookies from the site because I block them. What do you find when you scan with Spybot S&D and are you able to remove all cookies it finds?

Here's a shot of it and a shot if Spybot S&D confirming the fix. Is it possible that i get this from Yahoo Messenger? I ran the scan and logged into YM but i didnt open any browsers. Ill try another scan tomorrow without doing anything at all.

Yes...Yahoo is in bed with the enemy, I personally allow nothing Yahoo or aol on any computer I own.

I can confirm i get it from Yahoo Messenger. I ran a scan without doing anything at all and it returned clean. I logged into Yahoo Messenger, logged out then did another scan and it found the same Right Media cookie.
Does this somehow mean logging into Yahoo Messenger is potentially dangerous for me?

That's up to you to decide, since they provide Yahoo Messenger free, you can block their adds but I don't use Yahoo (as I said) so I can not say if that will stop the YM from working or not. I have really provided all the information I can for this issue.
