Win32.TDSS.rtk removal

spybot s&d keeps finding Win32.TDSS.rtk. it shows that it removes it, but as soon as a new scan is executed, there it is. i did some research, and it seems that posting a hijackthis log for experts to examine is the logical solution.

i am running xp pro ver 2002 sp3. and am using avg free ver 8.5

i have installed erunt and did as instructed in the "before you post" section.

i had a resident "expert" make an attempt at repair, which returned fruitless, as i was reluctant to allow the removal of "reasonably suspicious" files on a whim and at best a shot in the dark.

i had to rename the exe for spybot to get it to run initially. it is updated and tea timer has been disabled and computer has been rebooted.

my firewall, until yesterday, kept getting turned off upon reboot. all the sudden that problem resolved itself.

also, after running spybot, the redirecting portion of the virus seems to be stopped.

while reading the "before you post" section, i noticed the "if your not having a problem, there is no need to post" portion. this seems quite reasonable to me. although an actual current "problem" does not exist, the repeated detection of these win32.tddss.rtk associated files by spybot seems to me a reasonable precursor to future frustrations.

possibly i am incorrect in this assumption, and should simply request spybot to ignore these infestations, that i can accept. but would be more comfortable hearing it from someone qualified before doing such if that is the case.

Rootkit.TDss.gen is a rootkit-protected, malicious backdoor program that opens compromised PCs to further infestation by malicious programs.

2) A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

Remember to re-enable them when we're done.


Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
