I'm New here and i don't know if you need this info, but here is what i've experienced:
So I downloaded spybot S&D because i couldn't run malwarebytes because of malware that i already had, but spybot wouldn't run either. i then found out that if i renamed MWB then it would run, which worked and got rid of that problem, but i noticed that my results were being redirected after clicking on the links, which i want to fix. I couldn;t run spybot, so i redownloaded and installed it after uninstalling and restarting my computer. Well, i had the little icon in the bottom right hand corner of my screen that said it was running, but when i double clicked on the ison on the desktop, or on SDMain in the program folder, Spybot wouldn't run. so then i renamed SDMain thinking that this would work. well, needless to say, it didn't, the only difference was i would get a vlack box that would pop up for a second and then disappear. I also have the problem that now my printer "won't communicate" with my computer when i try to print, although it is perfectly fine when i check on it in the control panel. All of these problems seem to be in accordance with each other, and i need some serious help with this crap.

Hi Blktiger0,
Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

I downloaded dds.scr and tried to run it, but i got this:
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm131/blktiger0/blackbox1.jpg
In case it doesn't show up, i'll post what the box said:
'Findstr.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I downloaded it from the second link because the other two wouldn't work. I'm also not sure what a script blocker is.
Hi
Please try this instead:
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized, if not you'll find it in c:\rsit folder)

Hi again,
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.
The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
Please continue as follows:
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:
C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.
A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.
Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.
Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one here (http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/) or get Foxit Reader here (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader_2/down_reader.htm). Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader!
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleanerİ by Atribune (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) to your desktop.
Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it
Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache
*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.
If you use Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner) as instructed in the screenshot here (http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/Bleeping/KAS/KAS9.gif).
Post back its report, a fresh hjt log and above mentioned ComboFix resultant log. How's the system running?

I am working on all of this as i type, and will post the required material in my next post. I fixed my printer problem myself by deleting the drivers and reinstaling them. The search redirection is also fixed, and after my next post i will install spybot and see if it will finally work. Thanks again for all your help, and you could have just asked me to uninstall utorrent because i feel that i can't trust you since you had to have me do it in a sneaky way. I mean no disrespect by this, and will still run CFScript through ComboFix, but i feel you could have been more straightforward and honest about that. That, however is the only negative feedback that i could give, and I than you for your time and help.

Thanks again Blade81,
I hope you aren't angry about my previous post, but i see one of the major problems in the world today is that people can't trust one another. For example, if it weren't for the malware that you are fighting yourself, people would be much more trusting of the internet and it's services. I just felt that you could have been straightforward and honest about the removal of utorrent. If people like me can't trust people like you when it comes to computer related problems, then we are seriously in trouble. I just hope that you aren't offended that i said something to you about it. I had planned on removing utorrent anyways, and even though limewire was in the log, i removed it long ago (i wasn't sure if you could tell or not). I would like to thank you one last time for all of your time and help, and for all of the work you do.
Sincerely, Blktiger0

you could have just asked me to uninstall utorrent because i feel that i can't trust you since you had to have me do it in a sneaky way
I've got a very simple explanation for that. If it had been installed it would had shown in your installed programs. Since it wasn't appearing I was under impression it was just a leftover. Anyway, we have policy against P2P here and you would had noticed it if you had read the "BEFORE you POST" sticky (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288) and especially its post #4 ;) What it comes to Limewire, it wasn't appearing anymore so there was nothing to take action against. Sneaky thing is that ppl sometimes edit their logs by removing traces of P2P. In the end, they only fool themselves and in the worst case end up infected again.
I'll wait for the Kaspersky online scanner results (in case you still trust me :p:).

Kapersky wouldn't run for me. I don't remember what it said, but since you didn't ask for the log, i just didn't run it since it wouldn't work. I already knew about the P2P policy, and i didn't edit my logs, or i would have gotten rid of ANY part that mentioned utorrent. I'm not the most tech savy guy ever, but i do know how to identify that kind of stuff. I was already prepared to uninstall the program when you asked, just as i seen others of your status do in other posts, but you didn't ask, you gave me a program code or whatever you want to call it to do it through another program, assuming (i'm guessing) that i wouldn't get what it was doing and assume you were trying to help me more with the virus problem. I am not criticizing you for the P2P policy, and i followed your directions to get rid of utorrent, i am just disappointed that you couldn't have asked me "do you have utorrent installed on your computer, or have you uninstalled it" and when i said, yes i have it installed you caould have said "well, uninstall it", or if i had said no you could have said "well do this" and gave me the CFScript instructions. I'm not angry or trying to say you are a bad person or saying you aren't trustworthy, just pointing out something that i didn't like. I am simply giving you feedback to the service that you gave me, the samething i would expect anyone to do for me. You don't have to even consider it in your future cases, (for lack of better word) but i thought i would give you input on how i felt so that you would know. I know that i am probably more honest than a lot of people that come to you, so i understand why you would do it that way, but like i said, i was just giving you my feedback. Sorry if i came off as big-headed or disrespectful or anything of that sort, i was just trying to help you.
I will try kapersky again to see what the problem was and post the log or the problem back in the next few days.
Kapersky wouldn't run for me. I don't remember what it said, but since you didn't ask for the log, i just didn't run it since it wouldn't work.
Actually, the second final sentence in post #8 of this topic asks for Kaspersky report :)
Anyway, shall wait for the report in a few days then. Let me know if you have issues running Kaspersky.

My bad, i read it twice and must have missed that.....sorry. I decided to do it today since i had some time. here it is:
Note: i missed the part in the instructions the first time where you save it as a text file, so here is a screen shot (i know it got cut off on the right):

Please don't ask me to run it again to get another log because, as you can see, the time it took was a little long, and i am NOT willing to do it again.
Hi
That finding will be removed in final phase. Please post a fresh hjt log and let me know how's the system running.

i already got rid of hjt because i thought we were done, but the system's running great. i don't want to have to redownload/install hjt just to have to uninstall it again, but if i'm gonna get in trouble for not doing it, or if you think there is a major concern for me to do it, then i will. I wanted to free up some space (i only have a 20GB hard drive) so i got rid of most of the stuff used in the process of ridding myself of this virus.
Ok. Hopefully you still have ComboFix.exe on your desktop so that it can now be properly uninstalled :)
Well congrats, it appears your system is all clean Are you still noticing any problems? If not, it's time to secure your system to prevent against further intrusions.
THESE STEPS ARE VERY IMPORTANT
Let's reset system restore
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected. Please note you need Administrator Access to do clean the restore points.
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot.
3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
NOTE: only do this ONCE,NOT on a regular basis
Now lets uninstall ComboFix:
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
UPDATING WINDOWS AND INTERNET EXPLORER
IMPORTANT: You Need to Update Windows and Internet Explorer to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the Internet. Please go to the windows update site (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) to get the critical updates.
If you are running Microsoft Office, or any portion thereof, go to the Microsoft's Office Update site and make sure you have at least all the critical updates installed (Free) Microsoft Office Update.
Make your Internet Explorer more secure
This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
The following are recommended third party programs that are designed to keep your computer clean. A link as well as a brief description is included with each item.
hosts file:
Every version of windows has a hosts file as part of them. In a very basic sense, they are used to locate webpages. We can customize a hosts file so that it blocks certain webpages. However, it can slow down certain computers. This is why using a hosts file is optional!!
Download it here (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm). Make sure you read the instructions on how to install the hosts file. There is a good tutorial here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial51.html)
If you decide to download the hosts file, the slowdown problems can usually be avoided by following these steps:
Click the start button (at the lower left hand corner of your screen) Click run In the dialog box, type services.msc hit enter, then locate dns client Highlight it, then double-click it. On the dropdown box, change the setting from automatic to manual. Click ok
Get Anti Virus Software and keep it updated - Most AVs will update automatically, but if not I would recommend making updating the AV the first job every time the PC is connected to the internet. An AV that is using defs that are seven days old is not going to be much protection. If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out. Good free antivirus programs are:
Antivir (http://free-av.com/en/download/1/download_avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html)
Avast! (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html)
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For more info, check this (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial60.html) webpage out.
If you don't have a 3rd party firewall or a router behind NAT then I recommend getting one. I recommend either Online Armor Free (http://www.tallemu.com/free-firewall-protection-software.html) or Comodo Firewall Pro (http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html#fw3.0) (If you choose Comodo: Uncheck during installation "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage" and install firewall ONLY!).
Just a final reminder for you. I am trying to stress these two points.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!! Make sure you do this about every 1-2 weeks.
Make sure all of your security programs are up to date.
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Once again, please post and tell me how things are going with your system... problems etc.
Have a great day,
Blade

Thanks, Blade. Everything is running great! I installed Avast! and Online Armor in addition to what i already had (MBAM and SpyBot). I can't thank you enough for all of your help and time. It's guys like you that keep the internet going. I couldn't be happier with all of the help you have given me, and i will most definetly reccomend this site to anyone that is having problems that i can't solve. I give my entire experience with this site and you in particular a 5/5. Thanks a lot and good luck with future problems.
