Spybot 1.62/3 won't finish loading

Have just installed 1.62, with 1.63beta update. It starts to load, but when progress bar is one square short of completion it goes no further. HD is busy, but prog doesn't start. Identical result with 1.62 before 1.63 update added.
1.63 ran once after installation, scanned, I clicked X to close, got message "Unloading Registry User Hives, this may take a while.......

After 45 mins of no HD activity and nothing happening on screen I gave up and closed machine down. Now, it won't finish loading, just as 1.62 wouldn't.

I run Win98SE on desktop with 550Mhz, 128Mb RAM. Sygate Personal Firewall installed, no AV yet.

Any ideas please?

the problem could be your 128 MB of Ram. Which other tools start when Windows start beside your security tools ?

Hi Matt,
I have only Windows & the firewall loading on startup. At the moment, the Close Program box shows Opera (because I've started it up since bootup), Explorer, Smc (not responding) -that's Sygate Personal Firewall - , Sprcmd, Teatimer and Systray. :)
