I am running Windows XP SP2 with Spybot reporting that I have a WindowsSecurityCentreOverride and Win32.webdir.b and then it either freezes the screen or PC shuts down and restarts.

Ive run AVG and AdAware are neither are picking up this virus.

I attach my HJT log for anyone thats able to give any assistance, PC generally running very slow but not sure if this is down to Win32 virus or others that could be lurking

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You must have read and followed the "Before you Post" instructions, anything else will waste your time and mine.

If you still need help, first let's deal with this item:
Why does Spybot-S&D flag changes in the Windows Security Center?
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/46.html

This one: Win32.webdir.b we will have to look for, here is information at Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Win32.webdir.b&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

Let's start like this:

1) You have cut off the header on the HJT log, there is information I need to see. Post the next HJT log like this:
Notepad > Edit > Select All > Copy/Paste the highlited information.

2) TeaTimer is not disabled as directions, please read the "Before you Port" instructions carefully in case you missed other information you need to know.

3) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

4) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exe <<< download

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Tutorial if needed:
http://www.techsupportteam.org/forum/tutorials/2282-malwarebytes-anti-malware-mbam.html

5) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP,
Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)

Looks like MBAM removed the item that was causing you issues, I have a feeling the out of date version of Spybot S&D may have been why Spybot would not remove it. Let's look at the uninstall list first.

Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.
Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,
Here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested:
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.

Hi Phil

Thanks for reply, sorry took so long to get back we discovered we had a mouse in our flat and have been trying to hunt it down!

Completed all updates on list, and tried to run a Spybot scan but again after about 7minutes the computer just restarted of it own accord, and on restart the windows message came up saying it had recovered from a serious error.

Ive done a HJT log for you below and am now going to run a MBAM scan to see if it finds anything.

Hi Lisa, I am not sure what is causing the issues, but I will do all I can to help resolve them if you wish to put the effort in it. I also suggest the computer be kept offline except when you are troubleshooting until the issues are resolved. If that works for you, this is what I want to do next.

1) I would like you to uninstall Spybot S&D from the computer (in Add Remove programs) for now.

2) Remember error messages are Windows talking to us, I need any error message word for word, exactly as Windows gives it to you.
For instance when I Google "saying it had recovered from a serious error." I get this:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=saying+it+had+recovered+from+a+serious+error.&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=
Results 1 - 10 of about 170,000 <<< you can see how important the exact error message is when researching.

3) In case a corrupt or missing file is causing issues, please follow these directions to run System File Checker:
http://dwightblackburn.com/winxp/

4) I would like a look at a free diagnostic here:
Register free and run the test, post a link to the results so I can view them.
http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp
(there is no reason to purchase anything, the diagnostic report is free)

5) Make sure MBAM is up to date when you scan and post the scan results (unless they are clean)

6) Please be aware that it may take a repair installation or a fresh installation of the Operating System, I can not say yet.

Thanks...Phil
