I have a hard time remembering the URL of the Spybpt S&D site so I usually run a Google search and then recognize the correct URL. This morning, I did that and found a paid search result which looked a little too much like the "real" site but which is not. I clicked the link to see whether it would lead to what I'm calling the "real" site but it goes to a site which seems to want a fee for some service. In small and very faint print at the bottom of the page is a notice that the program can be downloaded for free without paying for the service they're offering. Just above that is a link which says it's for the free download but it does not go to the "real" site, either. The file it downloads is "spybot2.exe" and is 15.6MB just like the current version 1.62. The properties show that it's version 1.62 and has the same signature as the "real" file. Maybe there's nothing wrong with what the site is doing but I thought it best to report it to the software's owner(s) just in case.
The link is http://spybot.search-destroy2009.com/. It will be interesting to know if this is considered OK or not by the owners of the software.
