System hangs during Shutdown, empty alert mesg box on start up (Win XP)

Hi,

I have two problems with my Dell Inspiron E1405 Laptop.

1) System hangs and shows blank screen on shutdown, I need to press and hold power button to shutdown forcefully.

2) System shows an empty alert message box on startup with one button ('OK') I need to click that OK button to continue startup.

Donno what's wrong with it.. I tried scanning with Norton antivirus and spyware tools, but no luck..
