Smithfraud-C. detected on pc and unable to remove

I detected the Smithfraud-C. on our family pc and I'm not able to remove. It's causing our pc to go crazy, locking up between programs/windows/tabs and huge chuck of memory lose. I can't even defrag. because my memory is to low and I have inventoried our pc and that much memory use should not be happening. *(1)HJT Log from our pc, drive C:\ is NTFS format. Please advise if log is too hard to read and I'll reformat. But, I think I followed all your instructions regarding the log format, except the "code" option, which I could not identify.

Also, we have an external hard drive G: running that we use for large format items; such as pictures, music, etc. G:\ is a FAT32 format drive. I also ran a **(2)HJT log from our external hard drive G.

I thank you in advanced for all your time and support that is necessary to help computer "toddlers"; such as myself. We would be purchasing a new computer every several months if we didn't have the support that you provide. Thanks again and your time and energy into this matter is not and will not be taken for granted!

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

I will be back as soon as possible with your first instructions!

I see you have Spyware Doctor installed. Does it come with an Anti-Virus component? If it does not, then you'll need to download and install an Anti-Virus on your computer.

Here are two free ones to choose from:

1)Antivir PersonalEdition Classic (http://www.free-av.com/)
2)avast! 4 Home Edition (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html)

Download and install only one!



Step # 1: Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.


Step # 2: Remove Hijackthis Entries


Run HijackThis
Click on the Scan button
Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):


O2 - BHO: (no name) - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - (no file)

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - ?p=ZUfox000


It may be helpful to know that when you put an item in your Trusted Zone, it has pretty much full access to your computer... Are you sure you trust these sites to that degree?? If you're not sure, and/or you do not need these in your trusted zone to facilitate access, or you did not knowingly permit this access yourself, then please fix the following O15 entries:

Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
Click on the "Fix Checked" button
When completed, close the application.



Step # 3 Download and run SmitFraudFix

Using one of the links below download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
